Wasteland, I think you just won the competition for the most inapprehensible post of this month. Hell, maybe even of the year !

I play a lot on TG and while I live in Poland my pings are 170 - 220 this is not giving any lag for me neither the others. If it goes over 250, around 280 - 290 I quit myself cause it starting to be unplayable. So I say NO.
Only thing that is giving me lag is my 1 GB RAM (2x512 in dual, GAIL 800mhz though) could use one gig more. Anyone

? Gonna be your slave in PR for a week

sure, as long as not ALL servers do it. Maybe a designated no lag server...

Well, you know, it could also be your connection fault. You play on a server, which is on the same continent or country/neighboring country as you and still have high ping times, because you have a slower connection.

Ok,
1. Players with high pings do not "slow down a server". (Many players close to each other might lag you a bit, I'm not sure, but it definitely gives you video lag.)
2. It is easier to hit a person with a good ping than it is to hit one with a bad ping. In BF2, HOW easier it is isn't much, but imo, all you guys saying this isn't true are nuts.
However, it's even harder for the lagging player to hit the low ping player, (or more specifically, the good ping guy will seem like his reaction times are incredible, and the lower ping player will seem like his reaction times are slower).
Therefore, I guarantee you will have a smoother experience playing against a team of people with 50 ping than a team of players with 300 ping. So from that standpoint, it makes an argument for kicking people over 250 ping (or some number). But, like I said, playing against a team of players with 300 ping, while less smooth than playing a team of players with 50 ping, will be easier since they are lagging so much - which makes an argument to say why bother kicking them since they can't play that well anyways?
In some other games this isn't true. In some games you actually have an advantage when you lag. But for PR I will say this, the bigger the ping differences are among players the more weird **** is going to happen, even for the people with the good pings.

my ping never gos over 90 but it runs most the time arond 50-60
back in the day years ago i used to cheat using a 56K on CS and DOD because it laged all the server and all of the cable people. its quite effective. thay cant hit you. i also ran an FA-MOD server out of my home. and wan ever somone joined my server i noted that all of the low ping players realy had some problems with that person being on that server. but all of this is not as bad as PR.
just by looking at someone in the game in PR i can tell if your ping is over 180 wan your moving. your lags dont move! i see this in groups too 2 lagers and 3 non lagers in my squad.
there needs to be more servers or somthing.
better off playing cheat strike for better servers

Strange. I love playing with high ping. It's the only game I know of that rewards high ping. Play on any american server with 150-170 in ping, tango stands next to me, shoot me in the chest - I turn around and kill them first. Fair? Nope. I like.

Put that high ping player in the drivers seat of your APC and then tell me how they affect your gameplay.
Personally, I think it's up to server admins. But there are cases where people with bad pings can affect your game.

i think pings way above 200 (like 230, 240) are a deterrent to smooth gameplay and not fun to play for the guy that has it in the first place. our server autokicks players with pings >250 i believe.

Here I'd agree with you but if I'm on a server and my ping is high >150) I simply wont use assets because of that fact.

BeerHunter wrote:God is that old wives tale about high pingers lagging a server still floating around?
One would have thought by now , what with all the professed knowledge about computers , that it would have long ago died.
Ping is the measurement of time it takes a packet to go to a server. The further away , the higher (longer it takes) the ping.
If anything , it's a server load problem (number of players and amount of bandwidth being used). The guys with a higher internet speed (more bandwidth) are the ones overloading the servers.
The players with a 200-300 ping suffer some penalty in game play but dont effect anyone else.
The best explanation here.
Ping till 220ms is completelly playable in BF2, what not happen in Doom3 that reach its peak at 180ms, CoD series is about 195-205ms.
Some BF2 servers can handle very well 250ms players, but those are rares.

no player high ping necessairly dont mean laggy server unless server poor.

Hit detection (for damage) is done server side. So it's where the server thinks you are that counts. So, as already stated, a player with high ping will only affect themselves, not others. You will have no advantage over others by having high ping. Note that hit detection for effects (blood puffs, bullet holes, etc.) is done client side - so if you have a high ping and see someone shoots you in the chest without you getting hurt... chances are he sees it as him having missed you. Either that, or he also has a high ping...
Likewise, having players with high ping on the server will not cause lag for everyone else. Modern games use much more advanced network code than the first generation of online games where these ideas originated - and issues like that tend to be the first to get improved, with the aim of making the game fairer for everyone.
I find BF2 is completely playable up to 250-300ms, but I guess that depends on how seriously you take it.

It's true that it's harder to hit players with higher ping, however they don't have it much easier. It's actually worse for them, because for him, everyone else is lagging.
No it's not true that it is harder to hit high pingers. You still see them where the server see's them they just take longer than you do to get their information........ jesus I wish people would wise up on this

Read my post again...
Poll's question:
should server start kicking players with 200+ ping
My answer:
No.
Next time please read my post (that is almost 3 months old BTW) more carefully before you use that ugly smiley.

I find if my own ping is over 200 then it does affect my game play not the occasional high ping but the constant but thats about it unless theres a group of high pingers then I mabe find it does.

I play on BattleArena mainly with a ping of 240+ and I find no difference to playing on BigD or Internode/Sin where I get like 70-80. The only problem I get is system lagg on maps like fools road where there are loads of trees and fog.
I think the only remedy is a new compy!
