On Monday nights Panorama, the Brits were patrolling with some Afghan National Army soldiers, when one of the ANA spotted some Taliban in the distance they fired RPGs at them to start an engagement (can't remember the exact term they used).
I think a lot of people are too busy thinking about what weapons would be used from an idealistic point of view, when your life is at serious risk you would use whatever you have available.

If you don't like people using the HAT against infantry, make the HAT Gunner's loadout more realistic and give them a battle rifle or carbine. In a real battle, even cooks get a rifle.
If someone on my team has a HAT and somehow finds themselves in a situation where they are faced with an enemy troop and no battle-buddy to cover him, then by all means waste him with the HAT and find another round. It's a lot better than letting the enemy grunt kill your HAT gunner and retrieve his weapon to use against your own forces.

Yeah maybe the HAT should get a SMG like the MP5 or the P90

HAT sniping will be a thing of the past in .7
As for the act itself, it's a perfectly valid tactic to use every weapon at your disposal in a manner that keeps your teammates alive and achieves your objective.

...thing of the past in .7?
what does that mean? only lock on for vehicles?

Yeah how will they stop me pulling the trigger? Are they taking it right out or something.....

I'm assuming they will integrate a delayed-firing method. This should help prevent people from popping up, firing the HAT, and ducking back down. This is what I am guessing anyway. Close?

I actually like taking a rocket to the face. Cause now I know
a) where he is
b) It takes him 20 seconds to reload. My backup can get there in 7.
c) Congratulations, we just got a swanky new kit.

Ahh fuzz, it's no big secret. Everyone knows the HAT is a mini tank with infinite ammo supply that demands change.
The logical progression is to restrict ammo sources or remove the reload-ability of the HAT altogether. Require a lock-on timer and remove the AOE damage effect against infantry. In return, increase the damage vs. tanks and give the kit a standard rifle instead of a pistol.
The HAT could still be used against infantry, but with no AOE effect and limited shots, the HAT user is really going to wish he didn't fire at that infantry (which he didn't kill anyway) and instead saved that shot for the heavy armor coming up the road.
No more arcade-ish semi-auto Unreal Tournament 2007 HAT sniping.

What's cheap is people sat overlooking flags with bags of ammo, crates etc and firing HAT after HAT round into individuals (not even squads) as they approach the CP.
Whatever anyone thinks of RL, in-game the HAT kit is not designed to be engaging infantry at long ranges (and at close range, the pistol does fine if you're quick).
In the scenario the OP posted, yes I'd fire off the HAT because frankly, my reflex action is going to click that mouse regardless of the weapon I've got loaded - I've run round corners into a group of infantry and found myself trying to shovel them to death, before now.
If I see a small group of infantry spread out say 600m away, will I fire my HAT at them? No, because if they spot me and call me in to their team, I'm worthless at a HAT soldier as now the entire oposition know where to find me - when I should be popping up unexpectedly and taking down APCs, tanks and cars.

Actually that sounds totally awesome to me lol. If they can do that for any real length of time then the other team must be retards who don't bother to look through their scopes.

Emnyron wrote:As for me, I like hat-sniping.. Becuse I dont do it unless ive got ammo, or no other target.. 7gates is a prime one, I just sit in my little spot with our RP, and blast the living daylight out of warriors, landrovers and infrantry alike..
Just becuse you cant take the heat, or fail to get a squad to eliminate the threat, Dont mean its cheap. In war, you do what you can to survive, IN the end, its the one who lives who tells the tale
Did I say it was cheap? In fact, I said it is a completely valid tactic. Do whatever it takes to win.
BUT...
When you consider the focus of the mod, it violates both reality AND reasonable gameplay by reducing PR into absurdity and arcade-like. Sure, it's fun to sit up there and fire endlessly at infantry and watch both their corpses and your score go soaring to new heights... but without getting into a ridiculous discussion about "reality", you have to admit that reloading a weapon as unwieldy as a HAT from a belt pouch, or infinitely from a HUMV or APC (which effectively turns them into HAT clown cars) is, well, ridiculous. Otherwise, let everyone have a HAT. Make them self-reloading and carry one on each arm.

Well don't blame the players for that. I would argue that the players cannot "turn the game" into anything. The game is what it is.

Nobody is to blame, but it has been identified and hopefully will be adjusted.

I propose to punish the H-AT shooter with negative points, when not hitting a vehicle, bunker, firebase... or at least 2 enemy soldiers for wasting. Such weapon systems are expensive and limited. The resupplying from everything is also unrealistic (I wonder what PR stands for?

If you HAT sniper maybe you should ask yourself why you play the mod. Using one of only 2 kits available for the whole team as the only effective infantry countermeasure against armour to kill infantry and get a better K

ratio than everyone else.. Please.
If you're going to do that why not use LAT? There's 5 of them and it's basically the same. Not mentioning any server names but i went on a European server for a change from my normal one and got a squad going. After about 20 minutes I'd died 5 times. 4 from HAT and this was inside Govmnt Office. Needless to say i disconnected.
There are not many admins who actually enforce the rules on the server. I think it is up to the mods to implement measures to stop this (unless they want this vanilla-esqu play to continue). However as Wolf hinted, 0.7 wil hopefully bring this :]. 0.7 is going to be so good.

But firstly I hope some improvements to the LAT reticules come..

I dont see HAT vs infantry as a problem.
I find getting killed by a HAT as one of the least frustrating ways to die. When it happens there is rarley anything you can do about it.. u hear a whoose and boom you're 20 feet away upside down. Now you should know where they are, to either attack them or avoid them and tell your whole team about.
I'm only ever bothered about HATs when i'm an APC driver.
