MECs and Chinese running around with M95 ?
Somebody would have to model some equivalent for other teams than US and Brits (such as KSVK).
Or they could just not have one at all, since why should there be a clone of every weapon on every team?

At several points I actually used the uzi's quite successfully in wiping out 3 insurgents before knifing a civilian.
That's you, but what about the other 99% of BF2 kiddies, who just want to be 'kewl'?
I think, the M82/M95 should stay on maps, where it actually fits in; it ruins maps like 7 Gates and Mestia, IMO.
I endorse easter eggs, but maybe put some more rifles instead of M82/M95 on maps, like a SKS pick ups on Insurgent maps or G3/FN FALs etc.
Also, the M82 has become the primary objective on Basrah, whenever I play it, as NickO said. Screw the Land Rovers, technicals, IFVs, the M82 outranks them all
I went commander on Battlearena and some SL says to me "the M82 is about to spawn, you should send someone to pick it up". He ignored my request to come to VCP as Engineer and help me build defenses

And being in a squad, going around, searching for caches and the missing guy in the squad is at the M82 spawn. He even typed "M82 hasn't spawned yet" "I'll stay here for the sniper", while we got wasted and needed support.

I once used the M82 for anti-materiel purposes. I shot a fair few rounds past my teammate into the side of an insurgent spawn car only to have my teammate turn immediately around and shoot me (he probably shat himself after hearing several loud "BOOM's" in quick succession).

He shot you, not out of fear, but out of desire to hold it in his own teamkilling hands.
Lets not skirt around that

'Xander[nl wrote:;527882']I think the pickupkits should stay, but act like the weapon caches on basrah; mapper places like 10 spots, and the kits spawn randomized at one of those places.
it would make it worst. then ppl would be running all over he map until the find the damned thing.

Better than all going to ONE spot.
Then again, the worst round would be the entire team camping on several locations without any interest of playing, just waiting for their precious rifle to spawn out of the sand...

Nah he didn't kill me. He realised that I wasn't an insurgent, after his first snap shot.

This has been brought up before in DEV forums and this topic has made the issue resurface- good as gone in 0.7.

I like the kits and I never stay still long enough to get constantly sniped. I say change your camping play style and you'll not have such a problem with snipers..
Edit// 2 things, no I'm not a sniper whore I'm a 249 whore and second it's a real rifle and can be purchased on the black market and the .50 bullet is common and snipers are more common in todays battle's with insurgents than a real pitched battle.
I say leave them in.

heh, that is so ridiculously wrong imo. My squad and I were moving once
constantly but kept getting picked off by a .50 cal sniper on basrah. We couldnt get to him cuz we were just Insurgents. We FINALLY got to him and took him out but it was hell. Camping and not camping has little, if anything, to do with being a target for a sniper. Camp in a city and your probably safe, run out in a field and youre dead. Camp in a field and youre dead, run in a city and you will *probably* be safe (from sniper fire)
because normally its the sniper who camps with his beloved .50 cal sniper and so if you ARENT moving, he WONT see you because you wont accidentally move to a location where he will see you. its not like snipers in BF2 hunt around looking for people that are camping themselves...

I remember once when i were an Insurgent, I Jumped in the Technical but some ******* got in the driver seat first :O and guesswhere he rans of to? the uber snipingplace, so since i was bleeding i "Accidently" rammed the building where he was to pick the sniper kit up. and i got blamed for teamkilling

it was just an accident :/

If he is picking you off in a full sprint constantly I would actually get a bit suspicious and I've never once in my entire gaming life accused anyone of cheating. Some people are really good and have a PC 10x better than mine. I don't call cheat till I see screenies but anyway....
Once again, don't stay still in the open and it was your fault you kept putting yourself in his sights, you should have spawned elsewhere and not given him a target forcing him to relocate in order to get kills. If he has to get in closer you have a chance. You're an insurgent silly man, don't even bother with the long range fight as even the dude with an M4 can see you first.
So to repeat myself, change your play style. I've not been repeatedly picked off by the same sniper over and over since CS and I was a complete noob FPS gamer.

Instead of removing it why don't we just code it in so kenwayy can't pick it up? All pick up sniper kit usage will drop 73% which will cause team productivity to increase 24.3%.

My clan leader and I had great fun with the two M95's on Operation Ghost Train. We spend most of the round hiding in the grass and we had the two weapons for most of the round. I was the squad leader and my clan mate, when he died, kept on stealing back the M95 from his the enemy who had killed him. We had cheap fun camping the rear of the enemy APC too.

I am not a fan of the pickup kits that are found on any map, excluding the insurgent pickups on their own map. For that specific map, having pickups at both the caches as well as the mosque is a wise idea to level the playing field when the Brits have APC's and better equipment.
I have not seen the M82/M95 in game yet because I do not run around looking for them. But from what I understand they do NOT work as the real rifles were made. They lack the capability to disable light vehicles and aircraft, they are not able to detonate player-placed AT mines or C4 satchels, and I don't think they can punch through BP glass.
These rifles are not designed for anti-personnel. They are labelled as "anti-material" rifles for a reason. They are carried by specialized teams, not what you would consider a "sniper". They are demolitions teams usually, who deploy the rifles against mines and IED's, but have successfully used them to disable parked aircraft as well as disable parked and moving light vehicles. Under extreme circumstances they can also be used to disable external equipment on the heavier-armored vehicles.
Without having them capable of functioning in their real-life roles, I see little purpose to have these rifles in PR. If you can allow the rifles to distance-detonate enemy mines or to disable vehicles with multiple shots, then I can see a reason to keep them. But right now, they only create more of a problem than they offer support.
A DEV has posted that they will likely be removed for 0.7 though, which doesn't hurt my feelings one bit. Bring them back when they have a proper use, or just don't bring them back at all.

Yes, but those rifles are also used in counter-sniper missions.

That sounds reasonable.

I wish the Mk12 from the good old days would rear its head again as a secret pickup kit. It would work very well if the muzzle velocity was at subsonic levels (ObjectTemplate.Velocity <~344), to simulate the use of subsonic ammo, as it would take real skill to account for the extreme bullet drop and long impact times. Most people wouldn't bother with it, as their shots wouldn't land anywhere near their intended target.

Simply remove them for good. Why would you add a pickup sniper rifle somewhere in the middle of the desert or forest? AFAIK they don't grow like plants and if you have any info about the "ub3r 1337 Sn1p3r r1fl3z seeds" please send me a PM I could really use it IRL
