um...no they are not.
not if you know how to drive one.
one time on kashan i was bored, so i spawned as engie, slapped a c4 on a humvee, and went out and found the nearest mec tank.
most people go straight towards the tank, and what idiots they are.
instead, i drove nearly perpendicular to it, in an arc, more of a spiral, that curved closer and closer to the tank.
i could see the tank's turret swiveling in jerking motions as the player behind the tank was desperately trying to throw his mouse across his trackpad. he kept firing but hitting behind me and missing, i finally caught up to him, switched seats and detonated the c4 from behind the tank. he caught fire and blew up. unfortunately, I died immediately, and when that happened, i was MOVED to the other team, and when he died I got a teamkill and was punished. wtf.
but yeah, it can be done with a jihad car.

In .5 Al Basrah there was 3 bridges and 80% of the time atleast one of them was mined. I remember DevFile .5 Al Basrah, there were tons of people putting C4 on the ground, you really had to watch out they were everywhere.
yepo and huge ambushs at the 1 north of VCP and most people didnt go that way anymore.

What about the IED becoming a box without sticky properties that needs to be "built" by shovels to be detonated?

would work just need shovels.
I dont see any problems with IEDs as they are, all it takes is a little finés with placemnet and a bit of logic and the will work just fine!
Ya use a rock. I beat most of you guys are using just C4 in open hide it in a rock or soething near by. Then when they pass BOOM!

Sorry, but I get IED kills all the time. Just use mines to divert traffic toward your IEDs.
The problem is that people aren't patient enough to sit still for 15 minutes and wait for an APC to come by.

1. I don't know about you, but most smart APC operators will set down in a rough piece of terrain and will scan 360 degrees around their position for incoming traffic, and in a pretty flat, wide open map (such as the outskirts of al basrah) there are not many things a jihad car can hide behind.
2. we're talking about jihad cars, not humvees.

The only real problem with IED's at the moment is that Warrior's can go anywhere they like in basra and aren't limited to the roads...the roads are also bare. There is hardly any rubble or anything lying around to hide IED's/Mines next to. Also Warriors's can sit back and hammer everything from a distance.
To be used effectively they need to be used in a map where the brits are forced to take 2-3 routes to a target area, not have the ability to hit it from any direction they like. In the city it is somewhat better, but instinctively everyone heads out to the village straight away and gets caught up there.

I watched the magic moments video and I would love IEDs to be AT LEAST as powerful as those. I think you should on be able to carry 1 or 2 max. They should also be either berried or look like large rocks to get the full effect. It would be my favorite kit.

If the IED became powerfull it could be misused like HAT is. The free ammo issue will apply equally to insurgents as it does to the other forces
I like the idea of it needing more then person with shovelling and some fore thought required
Easiest way to make IED effective is to allow binocular zoom with an instant c4 ignition button. Of course teamwork & voip should allready allow this but thats two people, so it'd be an easy way to make it twice as effective as present?

It reminded me of that worms film or the spice worm off dune. Apparently it was dirtboy driving the humvee?

Because IED vs. infantry is impossible?

I didnt mention impossible, just dont make it too easily powerfull or it'll get over used because we have the free ammo thing
tremors is the movie yea, classic

last time i checked... ied's were used against infantry as much as they were used against vehicles..
just like.... rpgs.. are used against both...
point being... it should be freaking scary to walk around basrah knowing there might be IED's planted around. personally. i think it'd be fine if the explosion radius of the ied mine/c4 would make you blurry if you were on the main road running south to north, and you were on one side of the road and it was on the other side. and if you were in the middle of the road, and it was on one side, you'd be dead.
ied's are just a joke right now.

if were gonig to have massive IEDs, we need it to be in a pickup kit(s), otherwise it will turn into LoLB0oMFeST!

that's fine with me. it's not like IEDs arent everywhere in Iraq right now.
will just only serve to make the brits fear going into the city.

alright how about we combine the pick-up kit and standard IEDs into 2 kits. -Heavy Munition Ambusher(PICKUP)
-pistol
-binioculers
-shovel
-landmines (2)
-Heavy IED (1)
--only one Heavy IED may be placed at a time with this kit (if you get ammo and place another the first one dissappears)
--once placed the insurgent must shovel for about 30 seconds and after that it will take 10 seconds to arm (ready to fire)
--high damage, large radius
--no survivors
-Ambusher (spawn kit)
-saigia (with buckshot and slug)
-shovel
-landmines (4)
-Light IED (4) (anti-personnel and light vehicles)
--relies on fragmentation (ball bearings, nails, etc.)
--think of it as a big remote controlled frag.
maybe we could have the heavy IED kits exclusively for the insurgents, so a coalition soldier can't just steal one so it won't respawn.

i really am getting annoyed at the fact that if someone things something is going to be horrible overpowered, we have to make it a pickup or limited kit.
truthfully. there arent enough RPG's in Al Basrah to realisticly reflect the problem that our troops are facing in Iraq right now.
seriously. just make IED's better and leave them with ambushers. If people whore them fine. just means brits are going to fear going into the city, which they should fear.
and if you say "they'll just be whored like RPG's were before they were pickup's" then i dont care, because really.... they should be whored. Because the insurgents right now are whoreing them up.
You think we're trying to say "hey you cant do that, that'd be unbalanced?"
seriously.. we need to get over this whole.. "let's balance everything!" ****. it's not realistic and if that is what PR is aiming for, than some people arent going to be happy.

What Irish said more or less, besides there is a counter to everything. A dead man can not detinate an IED, send in infantry to clear before armour moves in, if he wastes it on the troops too bad. If he is smart and waits for the armour he's done his job well and deserves the kills. I do think it should be limited though and that they can lay only one. I think it should be a higher limit though just so that an entire team can't cover the map but enough of a serious threat that the British had better be damn wary before running into a blind corner.
Balance in PR I think is more about getting as close to realism while still being fun. I personally don't think fighting someone who would be willing to feed me my own balls before he cuts my head off with a rusty dull knife is fun so lets keep it in perspective boys.
