Most of you guys don't even realize that insurgency was never meant to be played like that. In open beta there were 2 Apaches at the airport and that's why the VCP almost never came under attack b/c it was the same as committing suicide as insurgent. The point was to assault an insurgent held city with all the toys looking for caches and fight the insurgents inside the city limits. Too bad it never got to that point

Basrah is a very interesting map to play, depending on who you end up playing with.

If the brits don't get a team to defend VCP, and the insurgents take it, it can basically go either way. The bleed might kill the brits, or the brits might hunt down all the caches while the insurgents are camping VCP.

If the brits sucessfully defend VCP and the insurgents don't attack, simply wait for the brits to come to the city then it is played much more like the idea of a true insurgency. Close quarter firefights, small cutoff units trying to find objectives, etc.

I have fun playing both situations, just gotta get a team to coordinate and focus instead of screwing around.

I will say that the brits have a huge advantage that I think should be balanced out, but they also have the squad bug . Anyhow, I used to think Basrah sucked, but I'm really liking it the more I play it.

Try Operation Ghost Train, IMHO it's the best map on most rotations

Yea same here, for some reason I hated it at first but now it's my favorite.

simple solution is get rid of the defences around vcp and have the Brit commander build them
or better still make the 'vcp' a police station inside the city itself, so that the British have to fight their way in and hold a position in the urban jungle where they are vulnerable

Making ammo caches spawn when intelligence is gathered rather than have them all instantly available would also improve Basrah's gameplay tenfold.
That and mortars for the insurgents - they can't be finished quickly enough

Al Basrah isnt really that very appealing to me anymore. Dont get me wrong the map design is one of the best ever but the teamplay factor is just really low (at least on the servers Ive played it at). The only times I ever get a good game of Basrah is when its played at the TG servers, all other times no one really squads up or does anything for the team
