What about staying on topic? I still haven't got a word about lightning/sky/fog. Is it good, is it bad, is it good but could be better, how to improve it etc.

the lighting and sky are fine. The map also has that "iraqi slum" feel to it (not that Ive been there, from what Ive seen). I for one cant wait to play this map as the US Army

well it looks great but if you finish this map and you feel you could push you limits i think it would be outstanding if you tried to do a 4km night map like this. here is a picture exactly 4kmx4km. again it looks great, really would like to play it.

That Google Earth picture you posted isn't rotated from north-south. The town is in lower left corner of the map and US base is in upper right. The whole point is for the US to cross the river.
Believe me I would love to do a 17km2 urban map but the lightning and view distance would have to be so low it's probably not even worth it.

1 is best. 3 and 4 are too much like al basrah and would just make your map feel like a clone, 2 is ok but ehhh your map would have to be alot darker than it is now and not sure it gives off the right feel.

looks great. there should be about 3 APC's, 1 Bradley, 1 Abrams, and 2 .50 cal Hummer and 1 resupply hummer. The US army when in citys do use Armor and other things. And yes #2 looks great.

little constructive criticism;
i love the hole block theme, from clips of seen in iraq all the buildings have compound walls around them, very realistic, but how about putting holes in the some walls so you can go between compounds ? because im sure ive seen US army blowing holes in compound walls to get into another compound.

Number 2 or 4 looks best IMO. If 2 is to be used, you'll need to darken everything a bit.
Also, as has been said, more custom statics, destructible and destroyed walls.

I'm deciding between 1 and 4. ACU would blend well with sky 1 fog but I also like sky 4 very much (Basrah/Mashtuur look more pinky). I've never thought that this is going to be so hard to decide
