I don't understand how people can still compare ArmA to games such as BF2 or CoD x or anything else.XxReconxMarinexX wrote:... but the codeing sucks, its alot worse than Bf2 and which explains the extreme amounts of lag. Take COD4 very well coded little or barely and lag. Honestly Arma is just place holder until OFP2 Comes out then it'll be deserted. Btw, if you want to hook up and play arma PM we and we'll hop on TS and hit it up.
All of the named games work very simple way - they just pre-load the whole terrain what makes you pretty much dependent on RAM size. ArmA, on the other hand, uses terrain streaming, so it'll load only the part you can see. Well, basically you can just make as big terrain as you wish to. And here comes the problems. Because it's streaming, it has to load the data from somewhere - that is harddrive in this case, which is known to be a bottleneck of PC, especially if it's fragmented. Believe me or not, but fragmented harddrive has a noticeable impact on your framerate.
Also, I wouldn't be that excited about OFP2. It's made by Codemasters and they, unlike the original developers, have only one thing in mind - money. Of course I would lie if I would say that BI doesn't give a **** about money, but they at least care a bit about the community. No matter that that would surely get more money for some kind of ramboish vBF2 type ****, they stayed trustful to realism so the minority of us, realism lovers, can enjoy another good game.
