Honestly Arma is just place holder until OFP2 Comes out then it'll be deserted. Btw, if you want to hook up and play arma PM we and we'll hop on TS and hit it up.
I don't understand how people can still compare ArmA to games such as BF2 or CoD x or anything else.
All of the named games work very simple way - they just pre-load the whole terrain what makes you pretty much dependent on RAM size. ArmA, on the other hand, uses terrain streaming, so it'll load only the part you can see. Well, basically you can just make as big terrain as you wish to. And here comes the problems. Because it's streaming, it has to load the data from somewhere - that is harddrive in this case, which is known to be a bottleneck of PC, especially if it's fragmented. Believe me or not, but fragmented harddrive has a noticeable impact on your framerate.

Also, I wouldn't be that excited about OFP2. It's made by Codemasters and they, unlike the original developers, have only one thing in mind - money. Of course I would lie if I would say that BI doesn't give a **** about money, but they at least care a bit about the community. No matter that that would surely get more money for some kind of ramboish vBF2 type ****, they stayed trustful to realism so the minority of us, realism lovers, can enjoy another good game.

i was a BIG fan of operation flashpoint for years, when ARMA came out i downloaded and tried the demo and the thing that bugged me the most about it was how FUZZY the graphics are. did the full game fix that? i was pretty disappointed also in the fact that the moronic AI of ofp didnt appear to be improved. PR is all i play now.

If you want a reality experance in ArmA join up with the many tournaments or clans. Thats the only way to see the full possibles with it. i know as part of ORC they have signups open but a 500mb addon pack is added for each campagian.

the Post process makes the game Fuzz and can be turned off (which i have done) not only does it make the game look better (in my opinion) it increases performance,

its generally only used for SS's to create the Photo realistic finish

Smeg: Fuzz commands a lot and promotes good teamwork, db flips vehicles, Bosco is an all-round nub, Outlawz is an SP whore, Nickbond is a friggin ninja and Rhino gets kicked for being a n00b.

I actually have taken a break from PR to play ArmA, don't think i'll be playing PR until .7 comes out.
once you reconfigure the weird controls it's alot more fun to play.

here are some screenshots i've taken when playing online:

Yeah, all of the pictures are from RPG mission called Sahrani Life (there you see how customizable ArmA is, and we're not talking about mods and addons yet).

#1 issue with arma - constant disconnects, lag and DESYNC!!!!

arma is not a stable game engine. Getting past 30 players in a server is an exercise in frustration and constant problems.

BF2 is rock solid compared to arma. It SUPPORTS 64 players, that is a fact. How many players does arma support? Stable? In my experience less than 20 players (depending on the mission).

The only missions worth playing right now in arma is evolution and sahrani life (in public games). Both games are very unstable with higher amounts of players.

So anyways if you get arma, you prety much have to join a dedicated clan/community to play in any kind of organised mission, and if you want to get into a large server, you MUST be part of one of these groups, which makes the community very closed and exclusive, which will keep the arma playerbase very small.

One of the reasons I think PR is so great is that new players are not required to join a special clan with passwords and everything, they can hop in right away and the PR playerbase are very helpful and friendly to new players.

Well, the desync is mostly caused by scripts. Also players JIPing (Joining in Progress) and downloading the map can cause nice havok.

There's an example what can happen when script goes wrong:

I don't know, I bought ArmA and my experiences with it have been far from fun. I played with the TG community and it just seems like way too much time is spent on organizing and not enough action. Plus, its very hard to find enough players to play with on Tactical Gamers for ArmA anyway. I'm not saying that I need constant action, but if somebody could show me the way to the fun, I'd be happy.

And everyone so you know. The Demo is nothing like the game. i have the FDS sound mod and makes the guns sound real. And here is teh basics iof anyone is wondering for Sahrani Life.

You can play as Cops(Blue hats) or Civi's. You have a bank account that lets you as cops by cars and stuff. As a Civi you must buy guns, lisences, and other things. The best part is aressting peopel as a cop or robbing the bank and stealing money. Today the whole Civi team robed the bank and killed every officer in the area. After taht we all got in cars and left city for another town. Here for some people is the map for ArmA:
