e-Gor;571966']Karkand is never coming back. Ever.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..................

I loved that map, yes it would need a lot of tweeking, much like OMAN WIC was, but I think it would make an excellent assault map with expanded boarders. Put one team inside the city, another has to capture a centrally located flag or two. Allow access to rooftops. It would be an absolutely brutal slugfest. I'd love to see two versions of it in fact, one majorly asymetrical with insugents/militia holding the city and another with a fully armed MEC in the city. 64pp both ways.

I explored the out of bounds area back when you could still spawn in the red and not die and I am disapointed at how much work went into that map and you can't use it in vBF2.
I bought BF2 for PR and the two times I played vanilla was a waste of an hour.
I agree, but that is not the faul of the map, its the limitations placed on the great terrain available. Imagine if you had access to the hills to the west of the town, or if you could cross the harbor to the east. Think of the tank traps you could set up from the roof top of the tall buildings.
Farks wrote:if you want action packed gameplay you've come to the wrong place.
Ah, Farks, I think you're wrong, I've been in some amazingly pitched battles in PR, maps like EJOD where you're battling out for the city center or even the gas station can be brutal. The bodies literally pile up on OMAN and Basrah on 32 or 16 map with 64 players. 7Gates once you're inside the temple is brutal. Ghost train when two well played teams are going for the CPs on either side of the bridge is carnage. Sunset village at the city wall is nuts. The fishing village on Qwai always results in a bloody mess.

The only time there is not a nice slug fest in the middle of the map is when one team is organized and the other is a bunch of noobs. When that happens its boring for both sides.

I downloaded a karkand for 0.6 : /, anyways, if you open the combat zone of karkand, maybe it will be more tactical

Posted Today in the Modding section (IDF Mod) of Upcoming Maps... well maybe there is still hope for those of us who enjoy Karkand, but hate the vanilla bf2 version....

Wasn't someone doing an audit for the map? IDF vs insurgents? Something along those lines...

I can imagine the respawn timer getting seriously out of hand on Karkand

I really like the suggestions on how the make Karkand better:

- Increase view distance
- Get rid of most of the flags to allow for less cramped and spammy gameplay and give space for Rally Points.
- Get rid of the red zone of death around the city and in the water.

Maybe also getting rid of the tanks and just having it APC and jeep only? Also, doesn't the southern road extend for a lot longer? Maybe you could have the US forces start at the extreme south of the map and have to dislodge the MEC from that gas station area and establish a bunker before advancing on the city itself?

Remove every flag apart from the first, last and one in the middle of the city then play it without the redzone. Lots of RP places, city combat, flanking, picking through the streets with your squad, etc.

The main flags would be at the default US position and in the docks for the MEC. The only other flag would be at the 'suburb' location.

Using HMMWVs, vodnics, light scout/transport helos and trucks only it could work quite well, but it would not be a good APC or tank map.

Just look at the size of this ready-made city, CO assets could be a big part of any good defence against infantry, placing the bunker around the corner so you can have the AA and sandbags on a major road or two.

EDIT:

with a longer veiw distance and evenly placed fog (not desert storm type fog, a more uniform density) all over the map you would get the impression of heavy fog and avoid sniping AND the dodgy view distance that vBF2 has.

EDIT 2:

give the US HMMWVs and the MEC boats, then the US would end up surrounded in the corner of the map, desperately defending the flag while the MEC can land all along the coast and cut off reinforcements to the flag from the US main.
I kinda like that idea, just vehicles, no armor. Make it counter attack mode too, so MEC has to defend at first, and then maybe they get 2 APCs. Shame that devs are so strict sometimes :(

Strict? Or cautious because they want to protect the mod? ;)

I love urban combat (well, in-game), so a good citymap would be very sweet. But for goodness sakes, never call it Karkand! Why do something like that? Name it Bagdad, Blabla-Capital or Something-East, but not Karkand :s.

Anyhow, something that might add to urban maps is placeable sandbags with mounted MG's, yeah! :)

So how about we add in a nice new city map, rather than use the bf2 map that has gameplay the furthest from PR you'll ever see in vanilla. Muttrah 2 or fallujah, anyone? ;)

The problem with a map named "karkand" is that strike at karkand is the classic fragfest-, instaprone-, bunnyhop- and fire-30-rounds-hit-5-times-and-still-get-knifed map. Project Reality does everything to remove this unrealistic gaming experience and add realistic, tactical combat, so calling a PR map Karkand doesnt make sense at all because everyone connects the name with the spammy 16-player-sized-maps-with-64-players-and-maybe-even-pistols-and-knifes-only BF2 gameplay.

I always love city maps, new city maps are needed and i cant wait to see the WIP maps we expect for the next versions, but Karkand - no, thats not PR.

edit: (great, now e-gor said it in one sentence -.-)

You probably wont see anymore vanilla maps added to PR....

IMO PR maps have gone leaps and bounds head of the original BF2 maps...

The mere sight of "that map" makes me shudder, i feel all dirty and abused now thinking about playing it in vbf2 :|

I would love to see more urban city maps on PR. I am really looking forward to Fallujah and Muttrah maps. I know there are alot of us who love those type maps. I would be more than happy to host an all city map server through one of my companies dedicated servers if there were enough urban style maps.

[R-PUB] Hfett was/is working on a Karkand Audit.
Here is the thread.

If you want fast paced urban gameplay Insurgency seems to be the best bet. Obviously you'd need half life 2 though.
