Seems like a good compromise.

Like alot of the weapons without a scope I think its done for balance reasons. Imagine the Vulcan with a 10x scope on it, you'd be to control entire maps and it blows up apc as well now

Anyway check out this vid of a browning on single fire with scope, tracers and recoil shoulder rest

If you're standing still in view of a tank MG then i think you deserve to be shot, frankly. Anything moving still won't be easy to hit with the binos as a 'scope' and so the only real victims will be still vehicles that have bigger things to worry about than a 50cal if a tank commander sees them.

Whats the zoom level on the co axial gun, in theory the 50 cal would be more accurate at long distance

To the OP: If it was purely a binocular option for the .50cal gunner, I'd be behind it. If it was a scoped .50cal as some have suggested, I'd be hesitant; the tanks are already roving vehicles of death.

Suggestion of a 4th spot with access to inventory: I'd hate to see this, as you'd likely end up with a Heavy AT gunner riding in this spot, once again making the tank unbelievably devastating.

roving vehicles of death sounds dead on, if anything its not true enough

The AAV allows that and I agree thats a bad idea when it would be unrealistic

Know this sounds strange but often a well organised squad will run 2 tanks (6 man). Driver / Gunner / Squad Leader (tank1) and Driver / Gunner / Engineer (tank2). The commander postion in each tank is exactly what it says on the tin - to allow the leader of the armour squad to lead.

Both the driver and gunner are doing their jobs, the tank commander can concentrate doing his. As in checking the map, spotting targets, giving and receving orders, setting move points and in a pinch provide point defence against close infantry C4+ENG / AT guys. The binoculars would be used simply as they are with infantry man and NOT FOR FIRING THE 50.

It is such a simple change and only benefits gameplay. Personally, i dont think tanks should get anymore infantry carrying spots as that is what the APC, truck, jeeps are for (although it is rare to see APC's not used as 2 man light tanks)

A well run 2 tank element should consume 6 people spots and be should be devastating and able to last an entire round. This is combined arms not just infantry with disposible tanks

Make HATs one shot kills, but give .50 cals either binoculars or an optic. That way tanks actually become somewhat less powerful, while still recognizing the fact that they destroy infantry.

good idea. but not for weapon zoom, thats just not possible.
all youd have to do is, hold the binocs on a target while holding still, change to gun and you perfectly lined up with no recoil.

I'm all for binocs on MG's but if only they be used separatley, i.e the movement of one is not linked to the other. Much like the 'free look' on aircraft

EDIT: For balancing purposes i'd kill the zoom on MG's, if its still in there that is?!?

Having seen optical scopes for fixed placed MG emplacements on vehicles, it's obviously something that is being used in real life. So I think it's safe to allow it to be implemented into the game. Plus it would serve the 3rd position gunner the ability to also spot at a longer range for targets for the tank. I personally would like to have either scope or binoculars for the 3rd position since that's what I do all the time as an engy.
