Yes this map will be epic once we play it. I had one my most memorable rounds on Zatar couple of weeks ago. I was on MEC and we were getting capped out quickly once they hit the beach. We started building a bunker on the center hill and before we knew it it was the last flag. I swear we turned that thing into the Alamo with placed machinegun nests (vodniks behind sandbags), designated killzones, AA network, the works. We held out the USMC siege for the whole 45 minutes with constant bombardment and blackhawk strafes. Ever since then Ive been trying to recreate it. It can be very bad for the marines if there are a lot of lame nublink pilots, but a few good pilots allows the marines a huge advantage. I've played it as MEC twice and loved it, but the marines can keep you running all over the place.

i dont think its anywhere near the best map or anything like that but its a big improvement on the previous version, and i think one nice little surprise to come out of 0.7. I still think it needs some balancing towards the mec side but overall its a nice map now and some nice different gameplay to the normal.

Zatar is great
I like how it represents having to defend until reinforcements arrive with the new mode rather than just straight out cap the flag
Its got wide open terrain with small lil land features mountains etc. few and far between so you have to make good use of them as a team...

Personally I dont really like it, most of the time I play it its just 12 year old kids being retarded on USMC. But it fills that niche for primary airbourne insertion/mobility which has been missing since muttrah...
I could make additional tweaks and balances to this map, etc... but I think once we get v0.8 maps this one wont be necesary any more...
But for now, its a good fun airbourne map and as long as USMC pilots dont have their up their ***, it can be fun and challenging for both teams.

To be honest, out of the many many PR and vanilla maps that have been in the mod, I'd hate to see Zatar go. It's proof like no other of Battlefield 2 done right - the flagship map of the commercial game rejected by the masses but embraced by the reality gamers. It would be such a waste to see the best designed and looking BF2 map go after its revival into something very special.
