no attention to detail... none at all

Rabble rabble!

*picks up running shoes* Hehe :P

Seriosly though, you must have been having a romantic sunset PR moment to notice this... I hope you were alone :o
Ssh I don't want to share my romantic moments in public :o ops:

-------------------------------------------------

This problem is not a huge problem, and I won't complain about it.. nothing to worry about.. just a little detail which is not correct..

Or just a little Deviation 45 degrees East

Thanks for the thread - jerk

Ok on a far more serious note now...

"Beware The Hun In The Sun!!!" Age old ww2 saying? fighters used to dive in from the direction of the sun and hit bombers where they couldnt see etc

Old tactic sitll used by todays fighters and still used in infantry fighting

Tis quite important imho the sun should correlate with what time of day and such it is.... It IS project reality after all so if it's dawn it should be dawn in EVERY sense of the word, not just what makes the map look prettiest.

Late morning, the sun is slightly high in the sky... let's attack from the eastern hills.

It would add an important part to tactics since we don't really have any weather.

Different times of day, weather and of course the sun all play a key factor in how you're going to approach or defend an objective.

This should be taken a lil more seriously methinks :)

I dont get you at all. The sun is gonna be in whatever place it is placed. just because it doesnt correlate with the compass directions doesnt take anything away from using the sun for tactics...

What are you saying? Just because the sun doesnt match up with the compass doesnt mean the sun suddenly loses its ability to shine, giving a plane or helicopter cover from a certain direction...

If a map is representing dawn, the sun will be low in the sky... what else do you want? I fail to see how the sun and compass not matching has any ultimate efect on anything whatsoever.

The sun DOES tell what time of day it is.. it always has... what are you trying to say?
Late morning, the sun is slightly high in the sky... let's attack from the eastern hills.
Good, then do that. Theres nothing in PR thats stopping you.
It IS project reality after all so if it's dawn it should be dawn in EVERY sense of the word, not just what makes the map look prettiest.
Read eddies post. On maps that are morning, the sun is low. I really dont get what you are wanting aside from this. The original post was on how the direction of the sun doesnt correlate with the actual compass readings. Thats not a big deal. Merely adapt and use the new degrees reading of the sun, its not a gameplay effecting issue by any means.

Not to mention, the sun doesnt rise and set the same all across the world, nor does it follow the same path through the sky. You gonna get different locations of the sun based upon the locations latitude. The DEV and map makers are NOT about to research the suns rising and setting locations of their given area just so the sun is in a more accurate location.

Leave it to the mapper to decide simply on the time of day they want, and dont worry about the direction the sun is casting from[on the larger scale]. Use it for tactics if you want, but adapt to the sun location given in the map.

Even than it is still not correct..

For new maps they should keep this in mind, to set the sun correctly..

Just for detail sake.

Since PR is getting more and more realistic by day they also should pay attention to (little?) details like this.

Ofcourse it does not influence the gameplay directly.. but It's just a detail.. and details are what makes a map realistic (or not).

It's not that I'm saying this is a huge problem for me,.. just a not correct detail.

Engineer wrote:What?!

Because the sun doesnt "move", this is a clear indication that earth has stopped rotating and perhaps even orbiting the sun. To make this situation even somewhat realistic, I suggest changing the gravity to 0.
Haha, exactly. You can't expect every map maker to find the most accurate position of the sun for the current season, location, latitude, time of day, etc for the map in question. That's ridiculous.

Time in PR[battlefield 2] is stagnant, the sun doesnt move, so why worry about the position of the sun in terms of "realism". Why is this thread even still being debated?
Jantje|NL^ wrote:Maybe it is just a little 90 degrees deviation..

Or Maybe the PR compass tells lies..

But in every(?) map the sun is on the North... a thing I don't understand since the sun should be on the West or East on (almost?) every map..

Or is the BF2/PR sun just a little joke which in fact is not the sun but the northern star?

The sun is dif on every map as it is set by the mapper when the map is made. The sun is NOT always in the east or west. Depending on your location on the earth, the sun is farther out to the north or south. It sets out in the western horizon, and rises in the east, but once up in the day sky, it all depends on your location. The farther north you are, the farther south the sun is according to the compass. Its all due to the angle of the earth relative to the orbit around the sun. [hence why its daylight for like 6 months in the south pole, the angle isnt enough for the sun to actually "set" during that time]

Im at roughly 40 degrees north latitude, and currently, the sun is to the south. Sure it rises and sets roughly east/west, but its path through the sky "appears" to curve to the south.

If earth stops rotating it causes damage to our Atmosphere an Magnetic field, what could cause Mutation caused bv UV light. I suggest adding ET or some other Aliens in the game...

B2T. If you don't have anything other to do ( what I personally would not quite belive ) you could fix it as previously said "Just for detail sake". But it doesn't really bother me

Why not? Also maps are part of Project Reality, so they should pay attention to this in future.

Irrelevant, there will allways be a little deviation of the compass, than just make the sun more correct than straigth on the north.. a little more realism detail.. a little more correct than it is now

Yeah, ofcourse the sun should not be straight on west or east or right above you (if not in reality) But straight on the north is not realistic at all In most maps,.. most maps are not at the south side of the world, are they?

If mappers can place the sun, they just should pay alittle more attention to this.

When you aim for realism, than just aim for realism. PR is good as it is now, but they should work on the sun in future if possible, just for detail sake.

Yes for detail sake.

It's just a missing detail.. <-

NO NO NO NO, It's just a not correct detail.

Just because of this thread, every/any map I make/get my hands on is going to have the sun in the wrong place in the sky. I'm not even kidding. This is my serious face.

I do, I have noticed that my sextant wont work properly on bi ming, the stars are all wrong. How am I supposed to navigate my RIB in darkness when I cant trust my sextant?

There are more important things. For example, the birds need do be designed more accurate. Also, some of the plants dont grow directly against the sun which is always in the north. My finger is always on the trigger, thats gotta be changed, thats against the safety rules. Talking about rules, i want to be able to lower my gun. I should automaticly do that when aiming at someone who's not a threat. Also, the grenades aint missing the pin when thrown, thats gotta be changed asap, because when i see a grenade next to me with a pin in it i dont run away. Very confusing. Must be changed. Then, the bullet holes should stay forever and i should be able to look through. By the way, when i shoot at a wheel, why doesnt that change anything about the cars handling? Why can i sit on a helicopter with the blades spinning? Has to be changed, since i want to attack enemies with them. And why is there no safety? Why are the ROF of the weapons wrong?

I'm serious. (about the safety part and maybe the finger :P )

- sorry, had a bad day today -

Put the antique back in its box (and make sure you put it safely into your backpack; those things are hella expensive and the optics are very fragile), then turn on the RIB's GPS system, chart plotter, sonar depth-sounder, radar and check the windspeed vanes can swing freely.

Then take the cover off the pedestal-mounted compass, and take the copy of the local Nautical Almanac out of your backpack and consult it for the tidal information available for secondary ports on the Bi-Ming stretch of the river (assuming Bi Ming is close enough to the sea for the river there to still be tidal. Can a DEV please confirm this for us?).

Don't forget to call up the harbourmaster on Ch.16 to confirm you're okay to use the landing jetties....

...What, none of this is in PR?

Outrage! Get this stuff into the mod IMMEDIATELY or I'll be forced to satirize some more!
