I was looking into this some more .. not sure if the PR Devs have any intent of looking at this.
From what I *think* I have gathered, the following are not really too difficult to change:
1. artillery reload times are xx minutes
2. artillery repair times are xx minutes
3. Commander assets do not auto repair / respawn
4. UAV reload time is xx minutes
5. UAV repair time xx miutes
6. scan reload time is xx minutes
7. scan repair time is xx minutes
8. supply drop reload times are xx minutes (?? not sure where to set this tho)
9. supply drops do not work on vehicles (I think this would eliminate arty, uav and radar repairing, but still give ammo and health to foot soldiers; would not repair or rearm vehicles)
Not sure how to disable the Cmdr zoom. That has to go as it's just silly how it works now.
While I think the scan is annoying, just wondering if peeps would think it was aceptable if it only worked once every 10 minutes or something?
I know Artillery can be annoying, but if it had long reload and repair times I really think it could help in team play. I would also suggest that artillery strikes would last longer than they do now.
Not saying that having Arty, UAV and SCAN are cool.... more getting at the fact that eliminating them basically makes the SF class a lot less interesting and leaves only flags as objectives. Adding back in a commander who would be MUCH less uber than current would imo:
- make SF class more interesting
- add objectives other than flags (arty, uav and radar destruction)
- make engineer more interesting (only engineer can repair the objects)
- add back squad to squad co-ordination capabilities from the Cmdr
- add arty as an element that could aid in game play, but need to be very well thought out. Using arty soften up a CP or to deny spawning from a reinforcing CP in AAS mode is a valid tactical element that would require some co-ordination.
- give the option to use UAV in a way that would need to be very "deliberate" as it would probably only be available a couple of times per round
- give the option to use SCAN in a way that would need to be very "deliberate" as it would probably only be available a couple of times per round
- add back supply drops, also needing to be very deliberate because of their rare avaialbility and have these only work on foot soldiers (health and ammo)
Hate to sound like I am campaigning for this hehe... but euhhh I kinda am. By removing the Cmdr, I think it has the affect of removing some significant layers to the BF2 gameplay possibilities. Vanilla BF2 Cmdr was a good idea with "coin op" like arcade qualities. However I still think there's some good stuff in there, but it needs mod level changes to make it fit in the context of a "reality" oriented mod.

Special forces class is being removed anyway.
Personally, I don't like the commander, who would likely be a second lieutenant(the lowest juniour officer), having control of an unmanned artillery battery. Even the UAV seems like a little too much for him to be able to just call in whenever he wants. The radar itself is just plain unrealistic, I meen, what techonology do we have that detects all enemy units but doesn't know what they are?
I would just like an officer in charge who would organize his troops.
