This would work, but the grappling hook is a very situational tool - you might request the non-grapple kit when you don't think you'll need the grapple, only to find that you do. The same goes with the parachute, though not as much, as there ought to be some coordination before a SF jump.

Given the rarity of parachute drops, can we bind the availability of the parachute to a certain vehicle? Most soldiers don't walk around with parachutes unless they're about to jump, and the best way to simulate this is attaching the parachute to the vehicle, rather than the soldier.

Why is there so much hubbub over this kit? In 90% of games it is either unused or picked up by someone using it for its 1337ness. I don't know why we expect the DEVs to spend so much time messing with a kit that has very little effect on actual PR play.

We expect them to spend so much time so that it does become a kit that has a dramatic effect on actual PR play - but only if used at the right time, in the right places, and by the right people.

Still guys, it's not like they're very dangerous. Just glance up when you hear a chopper.

This kit's ability to stir up debate amazes me, especially that since 0.7, hardly anyone can use it and that since 0.6, it's been pretty useless against better-ranged weapons.

The hook-removing thing is a problem because *defenders* should be able to cut ropes free and prevent people from scaling their walls/buildings. It's not a problem for the SpecOps or Engineer - it makes life ridiculously hard for defenders.

As the hook is technically a vehicle I believe there was some talk about giving it hitpoints equiviliant to a knife's attack damage, no idea what happened to that one.

As for the 'chute - c'mon, two guys with paracutes aren't going to be a problem, even if they're working together. If they drop right into your base, they've had it.

They'll get used for a little while and then the novelty will wear off. Now, can we put the SpecOps debate fiasco to rest please? :)

agree with masaq.... its not a very big issue...

2 max per team with a 5 minute reallocation time.... most of the time noobs will take the kit, jump off a bridge and kill themselves....

About grappling hooks - unforunately grappling hooks allow for TONS of wall/building glitching, even the maps that have grappling hooks right now are not 100% glitch free, there are places you can glitch into that no one can shoot you but you can see and shoot them. Yes they would be useful but nothing that a helicopter insertion cant do as well...

IMO leave the glitchable hooks out and save the server admins the hassle of finding the idiots abusing it, they have enough **** to deal with as it is..

You could make it so it requires you to be in the seat of a helo to request the parachute kit. You'd probably have to hop out and get it though.

standart answer: all the kits are unrealistic in a way. There is no heavy anti tank kit including a field dressing, knife, pistol and two heavy anti tank weapons. The whole idea of kits is unrealistic in a way, but thats the engine limit. Special Forces cant be done like in real life, because that would require a lot of "kits" in game to simulate every single varaint of equipment a special forces souldier could have - so its all put into one kit designed for a few things Special Forces could do.
