You can always start your local server and practice on it alone, you don't have to search for empty servers (but you can, if you want)

I just don't want to mess up and be labeled as a noob. The first time I got a kit to drive a tank, I forgot to pick it up with G.. then died when I got in the tank . Repetition usually helps teach the basics. I'm probably going to try to find an empty server to give those things a go, but I think a training mode would definitely benefit people who truly want to learn how to play effectively.
^^ What he said. I like this guy already.
As for those of you getting heated on the n00b/newb issue and basically using far more exclaimation marks than a sane mind can cope with - please, calm down and take a deep breath before you post in future, yeah?
Salraine_Chi basically made a very valid point - every time someone posts a new thread in which a bunch of people complain about how other people play, an unspecified diety of unknown theocratic background may harm a young feline in a particularly violent and horrific manner.
Oh, and ranting about n00bs/newbs make the whole PR community look like an elitish bunch of jackasses. Which would be fine, except I'm too good to be grouped with the rest of you
(That's a joke, folks.)

What about adding a system that is based on badges and medals.
For example: you need the basic "The Helicopter Badge" if you want to fly in a helicopter and you need "The Aviator Badge" if you want to fly a airplane. otherwise you die like if you have no pilot kit.
But how do we obtain those badges and medals? Well with a map that runs a training mode. The badges and medals can only be obtained on that map with that training mode and you need to do some flying and other things to learn how to control your airplane or chopper, ones you complete that training you will receive that specific badge or medal and will be able to fly in a none training map.
This will help to sort out the good pilots with the bad pilots.
of course all servers will need to have ABR running or it wont help.
I don't know if this is possible but it would be a nice add on.

dont think its possible although it would be nice with a pilot training that you have to pass before flying. It should be hard so only the skilled pilots can do it.

Thats exactly why i want this to be added (if possible) when this system is implanted and its working, then we have no more pilots that will crash the expensive asset

I got the new version of PR a few days ago, had a skim through the manual and started gaming. It was really early this morning, and i hopped on a server first time in ages mind you. So i was practically a noob again, and there was this one guy right, Madlagger or something who really helped me out. Showed me how the tanks go and everything and all this other mumbo jumbo, really got me up to scratch. So yeah, i must say i will in the future help out the newbies cause it certainly did me alot of good.

yeah but unfortunately there are still allot of people who don't understand how it works and then crash it.. and what bad can it do anyway?

why dont you guys that hate noobs make a new server and run a script that forces basic training and see how many new faces you see.
maybe it could work that would be great
but it would also be great to have all the elitists caged in one place as to not damage the communities open reputation any further.

To just have a training server wont help, they simply wont join that kind of servers.
We have to force them to train first witch will work with my idea if it works.

I've downloaded PR yesterday (and it's been like...a year since I've played vanilla BF2), I spent the entire evening reading the manual (twice

) and watching tutorials on youtube. Just today I started playing my first rounds, and it's already clear to me that it's going to take a few more days, if not weeks, before I'm ready to be anything else than a grunt following someone else's lead...
Though I wouldn't mind some sort of training, I don't really think it would speed up the process of learning how the game works. It WOULD however be helpfull for getting acquainted (spelling?) with all these new features, because it IS kinda "scary" to try new things on a server because you simply KNOW you're going to f*ck it up

Yeah most people are willing to learn how to be good PR player, but there are unfortunately also people just trying around and crash expansive assents... witch would be sorted with a good training. And players who didn't complete the training wont be able to control it cuz their going to die like if you have no pilot kit..

This will be (relatively) easy once DICE opens the BFHQ ranking system to the modding community, along with lots of other hardcoded stuff. Still, this won't happen until there's a major decline in income from ranked servers...which would take a while.

QFT. It's the best training out there. Way better than "drills" that people do and stuff. You make mistakes, you learn from them, you move on. You hone your skills by playing more and more. Simple as that. Now, everyone is not the same, some people... learn slower than others, and that's okay.
Reading the manual helps you get used to things better, see how things work, but it will not make you "better" at things. That part is up to you. How to make it fun? Practice with other people.

That should get installed on the desktop when the game is installed.
Or you could just only distribute the .exe to people who participate in this.
Just kidding, obviously. But if that happened it would be sweet.

An optional training system would be nice.
One mode can be a chopper training. Simply have choppers on instant respawn and have random "checkpoints" show up on the map much like cache's but in heli-accessible positions and you have can see how fast and how many you can collect. It would be a great way to learn how to fly.

I think too many games get sidetracked by the training. Sure, training can be enjoyable and entertaining, but if you start devoting your resources to training the whole focus changes. Yeah, the first couple of hours you play PR it's not going to be awesome, but simply by paying attention to your SL you're already better than 25% of current PR players. Also, just because you are uncomfortable doesn't mean you won't have fun. Yeah, you might screw things up a lot at the beginning, probably spend a lot of time respawning, but if you're here for realism you're going to like it a lot. Those players who are not here for realism are going to think the mod is **** or over the top, and go play some CoD4.
But....if you really don't like the pressure of online play at first, you can always fire up one of the PR maps and mess around. Also, Bubba's training mode maps are easy to acquire and install, and allow players to easily play with all the vehicles on several of the more popular maps.

Once a week, everyone spare half an hour training two people up with as much as you can fill their heads with in a 3 man locked squad. Then you get better gaming on the servers and they might just do the same thing. 2 becomes 4 becomes 8 becomes 16 becomes 32, and so on (in an ideal world!)

Hmm, more guides that can be easily accessed should be made. Some people are just too lazy to check the manual for one thing. I've had plenty of players last night on Al Basrah just spotting. Well, auto-spotting was removed in .7, so they're wasting their time, spamming the radio and leaving question marks on the map.
I'll probably make a guide on how to spot, with video maybe. From there, I'll look at other questions so many ask online, and try to help. I like the guides for SOFLAM on YouTube.

Videos on Youtube work wonders. Like the five part Fuzzhead squad training and the earlier instructional videos. It's awesome, I don't know how many people I've directed to go look at them for tips. Someone should make more of those and go through the basics, with 0.7 content and features.
I would make them myself, if I only knew how to request kits.
