Way to be a negative nancy, Nancy. If he wants to model this truck, then so be it. If it makes it into PR? All the better I say!HughJass wrote:great start but no offence here, what is the real point of this? new commander truck? really, i do not see this going anywhere.

the way i see it all it takes is practice and patience, like this model takes ages for me to do since i'm learning at the same time, and i actually think i will get problems with modelling it when i get down to the smaller details but we'll see.BabaGurGur wrote:I actually downloaded Gmax, because I had no intention of downloading a 600mb file and have it be a trial version, so.. in gmax.. as i said i'm just going through this to learn. and since at the moment there really is no need for other models by any of the community mods i might as well model this and then maybe when we have a lot of details done on the mod and we get near 1.0 then maybe they want to add this instead of the other truck, but i'm really not planning on getting this into the game at the moment. just trying to learn that's why i'm asking about the retriangulation and similar.00SoldierofFortune00 wrote:I actually kind of agree with HughJass. Kind of seems like a waste to go through all that work for nothing. But that's just me.

motherdear wrote:i'm using 3dsmax 8 (older version, everybody else is using 3dsmax 9)and to answer the other guys, i don't know how to model with spline, and i learned most of what i know from different tutorials i've watched and as soon as you get past a certain stage you begin to learn by yourself, as and example i learned how to retriangulate and to implement boolean tools to make stuff myself (with some basic research on the internet) so just see some of Ztroopers video's and then try and learn from there it really is not that difficult as soon as you get the first basics down. but do be aware that it can take a long time to model something fairly simple sometimes since not all functions and models react as you would expect, so sometimes you have to retriangulate or redo the part (sucks when those moments occur)
alright, tyvm for the replys guys. i just wanted to know if you learned by yourselves and the answer is yes. i just became interesed in modeling like 2-3 month ago(when i started checking your works in these threads). i always thought you guys took college or university courses and learned all these things but now i see that you mostly self educated to this point, i mean Z-trooper you have been modeling for less than a year and your work(RPG 29) is truely amazingZ-trooper wrote:Started last summer, self educated so farover a half year till I start getting professional training in 3d modeling and animation

actually right after i did the last post i looked at cheeseman's LAV and noticed how the wheels were done so here you go
wire frame so far

side view of wheels and vericle

and so far the model is at
poly's: 1,432
tri's : 3,098
also since the german faction is interested in the vericle, if i can't get the last details done (still loads of work i want to do myslef) somebody could take over if the felt like it later.
