Way to be a negative nancy, Nancy. If he wants to model this truck, then so be it. If it makes it into PR? All the better I say!

Wow, thats really unnecessary. Everyone has to start from somewhere, and hes making progress. It looks good so far, just keep going with it.

ok sorry for asking....good lord he is a not a baby don't have to treat him like one. besides, if he has no intetion in getting this to pr, then he can consider that he has a much higher poly count to work with.

first of i'm making this truck for learning, and i'm doing it with a low polycount so that i know where to be conservative later on, and if somebody wants to implement it in the mod the more the merrier.

I actually downloaded Gmax, because I had no intention of downloading a 600mb file and have it be a trial version, so.. in gmax.. I managed to make a Cube, then it got confusing, dearmother, props to you, people that model are rly smart

the way i see it all it takes is practice and patience, like this model takes ages for me to do since i'm learning at the same time, and i actually think i will get problems with modelling it when i get down to the smaller details but we'll see.

I actually kind of agree with HughJass. Kind of seems like a waste to go through all that work for nothing. But that's just me.

as i said i'm just going through this to learn. and since at the moment there really is no need for other models by any of the community mods i might as well model this and then maybe when we have a lot of details done on the mod and we get near 1.0 then maybe they want to add this instead of the other truck, but i'm really not planning on getting this into the game at the moment. just trying to learn that's why i'm asking about the retriangulation and similar.

It's not a waste,I'll bet he's learnt lots of new things.
I've made a pile of BF2 maps and I haven't even realeased a proper one yet.

This would be the supply/comm truck for the Germans, doesnt seem like a waste to me.

okay i have a small update on the wheels (they should be done now rest is done by texturing)
the wheel set is used but it's not the main one in use, but it's easy to model and texture and it saves a lot of polyes

well since the m35 in pr now is, well from the Vietnam era. this would be the perfect commander truck, or a armor repair/reload station since it can carry extremely heavy loads..

'S.P.C-[Reality wrote:-;610230']a question for modelers, do you guys learn modeling all by yourselves?! or actually take specific courses which covers all these stuff!!?
Started last summer, self educated so far

over a half year till I start getting professional training in 3d modeling and animation

alright, tyvm for the replys guys. i just wanted to know if you learned by yourselves and the answer is yes. i just became interesed in modeling like 2-3 month ago(when i started checking your works in these threads). i always thought you guys took college or university courses and learned all these things but now i see that you mostly self educated to this point, i mean Z-trooper you have been modeling for less than a year and your work(RPG 29) is truely amazing
so, i can look forward to becoming a modeler(but my goal is to become a pilot, maybe i can do this as a hobby :mrgreen
anyhow, thanx again for the replys

actually right after i did the last post i looked at cheeseman's LAV and noticed how the wheels were done so here you go
wire frame so far
side view of wheels and vericle
and so far the model is at
poly's: 1,432
tri's : 3,098
also since the german faction is interested in the vericle, if i can't get the last details done (still loads of work i want to do myslef) somebody could take over if the felt like it later.

I'm pretty sure Maya is not free. That's the suite they use primarily for large collaborative projects like 3D movies.
You must be thinking of GMax which is very similar to 3DSMax.
