All assualt rifles issued to soldiers in the united sates military are "automatic weaponary", not just special forces.

Special forces teams in all branches of the armed forces use belt fed lmg, weather it be a m249, a m60e4, or another lmg that is indigenous to the region i.e. the rpk, rpd, pkm, etc....

A wide spray pattern is ideal when suppressing the enemy. Obviously the saw or a lmg will have better luck doing this task....but you dont always have a saw or lmg with you. The m4 especially can complete this task. The army has had the same outlook since WW2 when it comes to one man to suppress the enemy and 3 others to take the oppurtunity, this is common knowledge. Every one and thier mother knows some one who has served or is serving.... But that does not make them correct...nor does it make them experts on modern military tactics, fighting scenarios, or weapons effectiveness especially when your source is one of the lowest ranking persons on the battlefield. I am glad to hear that you have shot some full auto guns, but I own full auto guns. I work with full auto guns. I shoot them 4 to five times a week. I have recieved training from former special forces members, and I have read several books on this subject, seeing as it is one of passions. Sorry to hear about your grandfather, my Granfather is a WWII vet too,2nd ranger Btl. company F.

Wrong..... You hit the bolt release on the left hand side of the reciever when you are empty and you have changed mags. Using the charging handle would be slow and more work than is needed. I can reload in 4 seconds while never taking my M4 carbine from my shoulder using one hand to preform all the other functions. Further more as someone with lots of ak 47 expierence you should know that you grab the mag with your left hand while using your left thumb to pull forward on the mag paddle relese. There is no rocking it forward and backward.

1.Press Mag. release...

2....while grasping magazine with "free" hand.

3.Swap fresh magazine from the vest with spent magazine (Usually though, most soilders will have a secondary mag. pouch, maybe on the thigh or waste for "Spent Magazines" as to not confuse them in a desperate situation).

4.Slide new magazine into weapon. (I usually give the M16 Mag. a good slap at this point, they have been known to not lock in completely; I could imagine this being fatal on the battlefield and adding a couple of seconds).

5.Pull the charging handle (lever, rod, whatever slang you want to give it; yet, only if your weapon is completely empty. If not, you can skip this step).

6.Give the forward hand assist a nice nudge.
That maybe the order for the USMC, but I've learned otherwise (Danish Army)...

1) Grab new mag

2) Release old mag, and grab it

3) Insert new mag (at this point, you're ready to shoot, as you of course always leave a round in the chamber!)

4) Put old mag in pouch

This is combat tested (several times, by myself and others), and when done correct, takes only 2-3 seconds, using only left hand (the right is always on the grip!), with eyes on the battlefield at all times!
It takes practice, practice and practice, but you want to be well-prepared, when going to the sand-box!

A former LC from the Danish Army illustrates it here:
