If a dev says its not possible for xxxx reasons i think its time to leave it alone as they already have enough on their plates

If going fast enough the air passing along the tail fin will keep the helicopter from spinning. This is what the tail fin is for, not just a place to put the tail rotor.

All the super cool kids know this, or former helicopter mechanics.
I have no issues with bowing to greater experience. The fact I scored a point under the right column is good enough for me. =D
It would be rather interesting if auto-rotation could be modeled, along with sufficient airspeed keeping the bird stable. As long as it's severely conditional and the thing doesn't explode for shits and giggles.
However, I doubt something of such complexity could be done with all the restrictions that BF2 puts on this sort of thing.

One way things could perhaps be improved is by finding out if it is possible to damage the heli enough to cut the engine, then increasing HP and uping the level at which the fails will lead to a LOT more crashes instead of mid-air explosions.
no offense but good luck with that

Shit doesn't catch on fire simply because you think it looks cool. Not everything that breaks or crashes instantly fucking explodes into a fireball.
Ever watch that episode of Family Guy where Meg races the Amish fellow and his horse and buggy goes sailing over the cliff? You know, where the horse is standing there and just fucking explodes for no good reason? Not PR material.
I could see it working if we could implement it if only certain conditions have been met, otherwise it's sitting right on the retarded line.
Wow....no need to be profane because you disagree.

Very rude and not within the forum guidlines at all....or so Ive been told.
I see and acknowledge your point about stuff not always catching fire and exploding.
Perhaps the fire suggestion I made could be placed randomly...or be triggered by the "attitude" in which the helo strikes the deck.
In response to your 1st question to me....
Do you expect the devs to make 10 to 15 different helo crash sequences ranging from "slight dammage" to "Burn In"....that eat up space in the game.....just because
YOU think it would look cool?
I will loosely quote what I have heard other devs say....
Skin it.
Animate it.
build it.
model it.
Make it work.
Post it on youtube for all to see.
then we'll see.
until then.....

I think the original point was to make heli crashes survivable, which could add a little spice to games ( aka more BH down moments), instead of helicopters just exploding midair (as someone pointed out **** doesn't just explode). We don't need some super detailed crash animation or physics, just no mid air explosions. Maybe have choppers go to a point, like the burning vehicle stage, where you have x amt of time to put the bird down before it explodes (maybe throw in some reduced maneuverability for extra fun). How hard can that be? *cringes waiting for harsh criticism of idea*
