Come off of it, folks. Unless you are a bona fide sniper or have served in a unit that employs suppressed weapons, anything you have to say on these subjects with regards to their tactics/procedures, frequency of use, etc. is speculation, no matter how much research you have done. And if you do indeed have the credentials to speak on these topics, should you really be discussing them on an open forum?

First of all, supressed sniper rifle is useless. To have a good supression effect you need to use subsonic ammunition, which means ur bullet has to go slower than the speed of sound. Not only would it severely decrease distance and accuracy, it also lowers the punch of the bullet a lot. A supressed marksman rifle however is a lot more common and would have better practical use ingame as well. A supressed marksman on a rooftop for example close to enemy lines. A sniper however, who is supposed to be way far from enemy lines...
how about a supressed 120mm smoothbore cannon? =D

well if spec ops, go say a suppressed m4 or mk11 or mk12, then also used subsonic ammo. this would make the kit be able to kill people with out being found, but wouldnt be able to have a very big range. this would make the kit usefull for going behind enemy lines and taking out commander assets. but still a subsonic 5.56mm wouldnt go through much, it would also make all weapons that use it single shot, cus there is not enough pressure to cycle the gun. i wouldnt mind seeing a suppressed m4 with a 4x acog.

exept it would make killing almost impossible with the suppressed m4. That's if my info on subsonic ammo is correct. From what I've seen using subsonic ammo turns a semi-automatic/automatic rifle into a bolt action rifle. And since the 5.56mm only kills with 1 bullet if it's a headshot I'd be using the pistol 99% of the time because with the m4 you would be required to shoot the enemy to the head every time or you would be dead.Jonny wrote:I like zangoos idea, it really makes the spec ops a stealthy unit and avoid direct engagements while still maintining an offensive capability if used in the right manner.

well in the end a suppressed m4 with subsonic rounds would be good for killing insugrents maybe. if you wanted the spec ops to have a usefull but silent gun you would need to use a 7.62mm like the mk11.
now if the mk11 was suppressed and shooting subsonic m118 special ball rounds. then the gun would have 462ft-lbs of energy point blank, and at 100m it would have 416ft-lbs and 345ft-lbs at 300m. so if you want the spec ops to be silent and be able to defend from attackers, you would have to use a 7.62mm.
now sure the spec ops would get a sniper rifle for there main weapon, but the flight time and amount of bullet drop would make the gun very hard to use unless you know what you are doing.
