Both of these criteria must be met in PR, currently.

This allows a way out onto uneven ground while the pilot hovers quite high so as not to hit anything in an area both clear of hostile forces and too uneven to land. Seems like a pretty realistic method to me.
So, to summarize:

1) Fastropes are "now" in PR, this having been doable since the Merlin first entered PR.
2) To use them you have to be on the GB team
3) You have to be on a map with a Merlin
4) You have to hover at 10m or so for around 20 seconds
5) Your passengers must either be SpecOps or be using stolen kits with the rope
6) No-one else can use them because they fall out of the chopper very quickly

I'm sorry mate but to my mind if you've got hilly terrain, you either let them drop from 5m up and chuck a crate out after them to get medpacks from (or, given that a full squad should have a medic in, you let them heal themselves), or you get bloody low and touch down just very briefly. Works just fine - and THAT'S realistic too.

Hell, if I know a LZ is going to be rugged I warn the passengers over TS/VOIP or Team Chat that they've got to bail from low altitude because I won't be touching down!

It's a great bit of video, yes. It looks pretty good, yes. It is going to alter gameplay in PR or become something you see every day on a server? No way! :D

lol... I can't believe you guys just found out how to do that. That method has existed for years, and it still can get pretty buggy (Test and see what happens when you move the merlin while the hook is connected, or just blow the merlin up).

How has it been around for years? Merlin just came out 1.5 years ago or so.

And what map are you guys using in that. Looks great to train on.

Training mini mod i think it's called.

Also I swear anything which jonny remotely endorses gets slated to shit by R-somethings or maybe that's just me.

Well... I know I fist saw the method being used back in a Rising Conflict promo video back in 2006 (Approaching 2 years now).

(Here it is)
YouTube - Rising Conflicts Video release #2

Hold at about 1:55 to see.

You can do this with other choppers besides the merlin I believe, all you need to do is be able to walk around the inside, and throw a grappling hook out.

which isnt possible in any other helo, because you spawn outside.

On which map do Engineers have grappling hooks?

Their loadout is maxed out with the new door-breaching shotgun, and the 9 key brings up AT mines to my knowledge. I heard other players remark on this while playing Fool's Road.

Good effort with the video, but that's a cheap way. :p It'd be better to haul a Scimitar or Land Rover into the storage space of the Merlin. j/k

Well, it was "roping", but not "FAST-roping" :D
Still, it is nice :)

Wasnt this done years ago? I know we did this while tesing my map like a year ago... tis common knowledge that the hooks hold on to the helos and that you just have to hover in place... thats not exactly solving it...

unless theres something i missed due to the horrid youtube quality ;) If so, please explain what else was involved...

Otherwise...old news.

dune, I too wont lock it for the lulz. This is old news and it only becomes *slightly* more doable with the merlin.. good job reinventing the fastrope.

Just get ScoththeKiller to be your pilot and he'll land you anywhere. I mean ANYWHERE.

Uneven terrain flattens at the mention of that man, nay God's, name.

its really old news... I dunno why you EEF or w/e guys cant work that out... we have known you can chuck grapling hooks out of choppers for over 2 years now? Its really common knowledge and if you call it fast roping, fast roping is already in PR so you can dance round in circles
