thats because nightmaps in theroy sound "cool", but when players get on them they get all pissed off cos there situational awareness goes down the drain and quit as they where not expecting it to be like that, they where thinking it was going to be "all cool SF stuff" but really all they find is they are repeatedly getting shot out of places they have no clue from...

Agreed. Though we've not played a nightmap in open desert, right? It also involves infantry and all vehicles. Never had a tank battle by night

.
I'd like to try it out really, on some closed server, to see if it's playable and fun.
Imagine Apaches on whisper mode.....

Kashan would be an excellent choice to have a night equivalent.
Kashan day IMO is dominated by anything with distance sighting.
Due to the sunlight, lack of haze/view-distance....almost all targets appear as a "black dot" sticking out.
A Kashan night map would give cover to more troop movements and offer up a very nice "hide and seek" method of play.

So true.. I liked Bi Ming. It was hard, but the sneaking around was really cool. The map was underplayed imo. But maybe "1001 Kashan Nights" will put some life in nightmaps again, which hopefully is fun for everyone.

Meh, something like dusk or with moonlight would be better, not the pitch black night.

pitch black night is realistic unless theres a full / 1/2 moon. Most night operations take place when there is no moon due to the advantage NVGs gives them.

I'd much prefer an evening map if that's realistic. Anyone remember Dalian Plant sunset from Vanilla? That map was so pretty I wanted to just park up my Nanjing by the beach and watch the sun go down... even though it inevitably wouldn't.

Tank drivers aswell actually.
Lol, well if you call that FLIR then what is
this?
vBF2/PR only has some black and white add to their cameras.

Kashan at night with a almost full moon will give just enough light that you could use Nightvision or not depending on the roll. The land would glow an eerie brownish blue and would rock! Lights in all bunker areas, bases and a few of the houses in various areas on the map. This would be an incredible experience and I very much enjoy that.

I must admit, it would be a big buzz being inserted by a chopper with nightvision on, i wonder how a sky full of tracers would look. But wouldnt all of the vehicles need modding with NV equipment?

But coalition forces havent encountered a opposing force with NV equipment, well small amouts of armour NV in 'Iraqi freedom'. UNless someone can correct me.

Would defy the point of having it in night wouldn't it? Full moons light pretty much everything up, If your going to do night, and actually have it have an effect on gameplay, it needs to be pitch black. That way people can sneak around and night vision would play a part. Currently Kashan is about as troop un-friendly as you can get, pitch black would perhaps make them something to be feared by tanks.

Not neccecerally, infantry heat sources on IR cameras makes them even worse.

And then being blown away by the attack-chopper <- me being the gunner

I say go for it

I don't think it's possible to light up hot targets (as in real life) on the BF2 engine. But my point is that the view you have in the gunner seat won't change in the night, I mean, the black and white view you have in the gunner view in daylight like kashan has now, will still be exactly the same when on a night map. So this already gives the choppers a good advantage in the night, wouldn't you say so?
