I think map makers need to follow the examples of Op Archer and (apparently) Khara in producing maps that are difficult or slow to navigate even by foot without sticking to defined trails. Where these trails also offer cover benefits, you'll see the best gameplay.

As people begin to use trails more and more, you'll see increased use of ambush tactics, strategic management and patrolling of trails, and increased effectiveness of stealth infiltration of CP's (as people expect attacks more often to come from trails).

As map makers move down this route, the best maps will be those where the map maker has blended these elements into realistic and visually appealing terrain.

some good points in here :)

Think one of the key areas all of you have missed is that what PR is really lacking is in fact realistic forests hehe.

Well, we already proved that grass does not grow in forests besides jungle, so that one can be ticked off the list. :p

We need more realistic maps based on Google Earth, like Basrah, Sangin and Fallujah.

Something with the atmosphere of Mao Valley would be sweet. I remember the dense foliage created a lot of unique CQC opportunities.

Agreed

Part of what makes me salivate over each new release is how the mapper's skillz keep going from great to godlike.

ofc, the only thing holding some maps back are the crashes- even then they are WORTH IT :D

-A purely mountainous map consisting of small paths, ropebridges, narrow passes, and pure infantry. Something like Kashmir perhaps, objectives being artillery position in remote mountains.

Would be nice to be able to destroy ropebridges. But I agree with more 'special' objective based maps.

I would be interested in making some maps. First I gotta try and make my very first though. I have mapped for allied assault though. So It might be a bit the same!

When I succeed I can look at the tips here and work on that. Recreating a google map map would be awesome as well! And it would be the best If I could work on PR team with maps hehe

Maps with increased vieuw distance would be nice, I played the wookie sniper mod with unlimited vieuw and doesnt seem to lag. I know PR is heavier on the PC than vanilla but maybe 2km vieuw distance isnt that bad.

its not unlimited, its 2 or 3k view distance...

the thing you need to think about is there maps dont have any tanks, apcs, jets etc running around, all they have is some players with sniper rifles, not even all the hand weapons in use, a car or 2 and on very few maps a chopper. each tank etc has like 2 2048x2048 textures which take up a huge amount of memorie, not having to load them frees up loads of stuff.

that is why they can get away with that.

Bit more testing on climbable sections, some areas on the riverbank on qwai and other maps have terrain which would in RL be clamberable, but instead you slide down them. Also, a series of maps, with overlapping areas and a story to connect them. An example would be an AAS modification to represent how the British got to Basra in the first place, so as to be in place for the subsequent insurgent mode, or the initial US assault on Ejod, using only the city (ignoring the MEC main and first flag) and a bit of detail past the USMC staging post in the normal Ejod. Right now, the map just feel on their own, wihtout a sense of overall conflict or attachment to each other.

I like being a squadleader, and as a squadleader i like to have a good overwiev of my imediat sourroundings.

I like Kashan because of the Bunker Complex, and the long driving. Because of the long driving i have good time to explain everyone how to act, and what kit etc.

So make a big map, which has alot of "Terrain" Cover, like ditches, which you can walk in.

Or holes, huge craters. I also like having a huge open area and going on foot through there and having small bumps to hide behind if under fire.

I would like a huge flat dessert map, with terrain cover.
I am a big fan of heli insertion(Who isnt :P ) so if one could implement that, it would be cool.

I must say, i dont like forest/jungel maps; no offence i know alot of people love them, and others has worked hard to make them work.

But i like when things are slow, then suddenly fast. And then slow again. Not the constant battle, i like to think.

Make a map perfectly balanced, with the same set of veichles and also make the map look very mirrored.

PS: My favorite map is kashan 16... If that says anything.

I for one vote for more "natural" barriers and what not. Like ditches, hills, feilds with irrigation ditches along the sides of them, trenches, fox holes, bomb craters, static smoke effects for that "fog of war" feeling, also while playing on kasahn my squad was more or less focused on fighting in the mountains/hills near the bunkers and south village, so more stuff like that would really do it for me

More maps with tanks.
