Ive acquired quite a bit of basic experience by now, but it seems although i cant use Fireteams effectively, Im still sometimes the best SL, even though id describe my leading skills as mediocre.
Where (the f) have all the good squadleaders gone?
Long time ago...

I seem to remember playing an FPS or mod of an FPS where the community had tutorials, essentially a time and a server where a few knowledgable veterans would promise to play with less skilled newbies, sharing their understanding of the game and tactics, and allowing people to form their own groups of less skilled players.

I think it may have been PlanetSide, or SWAT 4...

Ante had an adopt-a-newbie program back before I left, but I guess that vanished when he lost morale in the game.

About fireteams. blend, I tend to keep any squads I lead together unless I need a couple to split off and do something.

The thing I hate the most are Armor Soloer wasting vehicles and peoples playing PR without VOIP or teamSpeak.

Maybe the key for finding Teamwork is joining a PR dedicated team/clan ?

People without voip in PR is like teamkillers.

I was playing in a squad of 5 of my clan mates the other day and I was squad leading. We had a guy new to the mod in our squad and we ran him through what kits we needed, where he could get them. We then explained to him bout vehicles (as he tried to use them). He then found the supression effect ocnfusing so we helped him with that.

You guys cry out for good SL's but I was focusing on sorting out our squad, where to go, what we needed, what we were engaging and I simple didn't have enough time to babysit this guy 24/7. I pitched in with a few comments when waiting to respawn everyonce in a while but it was actually my SM's who helped him get through the round.

Just a little input from a long time SL.

ruth is we cant get rid of them...and they XCNAT all get a mic..maybe for money reasons or something else...but we can help them..teach them...i usually like following orders...but i think the people who keep looking for good SL's have to take charge and strat teaching noobs

Did you try to tell the squad leader that you're just starting?

Usually, if the guy is a "real veteran" he'll help you out ;) .

I think it's more of his personal life that made him go away. He's moved from Germany to London.

Thank God for FH2 - it acts as a sponge for the noobs that might otherwise join PR, as FH2 is more addictive and consistently fun than PR, but the few truly great battles in PR are more fun than any other FPS.

this is why i always lead my own squad (or play under the lead of someone i know). you cant control your entire team, but you can control the 5 guys in your squad. it sucks getting stomped by the opposing team, but it's still fun if you're squad is in the action with a well placed RP.

if the teamwork isnt there, i just get my squad into a defensive position. when the other team is organized and your team is jacking around doing nothing, the guys in the defensive positions will eventually get a world shit falling down on them. this normally leads to great fun for an extended period of time. it's also doing a great service to the rest of your team as you hope they can do something productive in the time you are buying them. most of the time in this situation you end up losing, but it still can be a lot of fun and have squad level teamwork, at least.

I do agree with you, however it greatly depends on who you are playing with. Whether it is with mora in an attack helicopter, playing with clan members or those "noobs" (they know who they are :p ) I always have a good game.

Thats not to say you don't find cool people to play with in random pub games, but I don't like gambling. ;)

I usually get decent to great teamwork on Battlearena or TG. Just have to get to know some people, and make your own if no one else seems to be interested.

Nubs.....

rhymes with....

idiots who don't understand the game and f@ck it up for everybody by running around causing havoc *doesnt precisly rhyme, but its close*

Those are the Idiots who were teamkilling everybody back in vanilla!
But now they are tired of shoot-shoot bang-BAN and are comming over to PR to find a new way to screw things up, now its not just I shoot you, you get annoyed therefore I am having fun...no. Now most aspects of the game allow them to f@ck around with us, without even TKing most of the time. As a PR pilot, my personal worst is people who get in jets and (sometimes I ask if they are good) and they take off *Kashan* and hit the wall before they even decide that veering a little to the right before take off is dangerous when you're going 3x VJS!!!! (Vanilla Jet Speed the BF2 Mach)

i just make the teamwork happen if its not happening on its own. If you dont like the lack of teamwork, then make a squad, lock it, and kick anyone who does not obey orders. Pr has lots of people who want to follow but too few want to lead.

If you want teamwork, be a leader.

I only agree with this thread 10%. because it is only 10% or less of the time you will find people who cant play using tactics. its either a communication barrier of some sort, or ignorance. While playing Bf2 and other online games, i have bore witness to the most horrendous psychopathic ignorance amplified by arrogance! I really wish some of the miserable gits and arrogant losers who refuse to augment their personalities to fit with the mod would just die, or go play Wow and get out of our hair.

EDIT: As you can probibly tell i just went through a night of that 10%! oh yes...lots of 10%ing!!!1 :D

Yesterday I joined the only available squad. The SL was using a SAW kit and the SMs were spread out over the map. When the SL died I asked him to get an officer kit. He replied that with this kind of squad it wasn't worth the effort. Shortly he left the squad which led to the usual "I don't want to be SL so I leave/rejoin" mini-game. I asked the squad to leave and rejoin once I was SL. Then it took a few minutes and some move markers but soon enough almost the entire squad was on me and we were capturing a flag and actually covering each other.

If a SL gives orders the squad usually tends to form up. Once SL gets quiet then the SMs will start to wander around or simply leave and join another squad. And when you join a quiet squad, just call out the enemies. It will usually encourage others to speak up too which will greatly improve teamwork.

And one thing I hate more than a new player who does all the wrong things is a veteran who fills the VOIP channel with all his complaining.
