Just a few little tips, that hardest thing about this will not be so much the model, although that is no doubt going to be as tough as hell to do, but skinning it is also going to be very very hard.
You are going to have to model your model in such a way to go well with the texture pallets.
If you look at the vbf2 carrier, think like lines on the deck, numbers etc are in fact polys with the correct material applied to them to get a clean finish.
It is probably an idea you try and get your head around the bf2 static texture system with pallets etc before you continue with this model

Alright got a quick shot in the editor of what I mean.
The front of the vBF2 carrier, notice the number 2, lines etc on the deck.
Now if i switch it to wireframe mode, you can see that they are not done with a texutre, but instead with polys with a texture assigned to them.
hope that helps

Why did they do it like that?

quite simple really, cos if they didn't they wouldn't have a clean edge around the lines etc, would be a pixel blur and to make it look like anything they would to have a super huge texture where as this way they only need medium sized texture pallets with all the textures on them and a few extra polys where as that extra polys is nothing compared to how big the texture would need to be processing and mem wise.

I am at work atm so i cant show you any recent stuff but from my old MoC days i still have this one:
I dint make the model myself, another guy from my former mod did it but it was never used because MoC died a lonely death, i managed to save a few models, including this one.

Scot you are the most disturbed 16 yo ever.
Good start, make sure that you keep going, even if you are stumped.

The Ocean was not in the Falklands m8 it was Hermes and Invincible, i remember going to Gosport with my dad and waving them off.

I had an idea for an Al Faw Penisula Map to make over the summer and the only thing missing for me was Ocean. And now this thread shows up, I'm tempted to start it. I would also need Sea Kings/Lynx but i'm sure the Merlin/Apache could stand in...

If only us English had a golakeeper like that for the Euro qualifiers, we might still be in the tournament. lols
Edit: Sorry Hotrod, you pointed out what the goalkeeper is. Doh! :d uh:
Glimmerman, that's mint. But yeah, I don't think I'll be needing anything like that for a while. Thanks for the input.
@Morgan, that's the point of this static, so people can start thinking about maps that may use it. I've not put any thought into mapping myself but I realised that people have been screaming out for a British heli assult ship.
It was probably a bit early to post a WIP as this'll take a while but I wanted to throw it out there incase anyone had already started it or had any better ideas.
Thanx again for all the support people, I'll need it.
I'm off to pull the EA carrier apart to get some pointers...

good start for a first try but you can cut on the tris count on the front i think like 1/3 off small tip use backspace instead of delete delete removes the face backspace just removes the egde or vertex
