because the file is so large it takes a few minutes to process it since its an unknown installation, like microsoft software for an example.
open and go make urself a cup of tea or coffee, once you're back it should be up. I recommend going to properties first - compatibility. Run this program in camp mode for win xp SP2 & check run this program as an administrator for both core & level files.

A thing that might be that important but on vista, on the properties->compatibility tab, check "Disable visual themes". It makes aero automatically turn on and off when you launch the game. Frees up some memory and processor ticks

@chrjam111:
You need to wait a couple minutes for it to open. Its not a small file, and as its a unknown .exe it needs to verify it (=read trough the whole file)
@Tommy
Try this:
Shourtcut to PR:
Properties->compatibility
Check:
-"Run in compatibility mod" and choose XP SP2
-"Disable Visual Effects"
-"Run as Administrator"
In-game:
Textures at medium

Hey; Jaitara_X here. I'm running pretty much a top of the line computer, but 'cos it's got Vista, PR crashes for me whenever I hit "deploy", immediately after it pops up with the screen "Starting Server" or "Joining Server". I attempted running it in XP SP2 Compatability Mode, but it had no effect. My gaming machine's pretty much a beast (it can run vBF2 on High Graphics with little to no lag), so I'm hoping to get back on to PR 0.8 sometime soon

if anyone else can find the tweak that makes this baby work, I'd be a happy, happy man!

I'm guessing you have levels... I'm also guessing with a top of the range computer, you are running over 800x600... Can you post all your specs up?

Certainly.
HARDWARE
T-Series Motherboard with ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics Chipset (512 MB)
AMD2+ 3.0 Dual-Core Processor
2 x 2 GB DDR2 RAM @ 1000 mHz
SEAGATE Barracuda SATA Hard Disk Drive
Sony DVD/CD Disk Drive
SOFTWARE
Windows Vista 64-Bit Operating System
Miscellaneous T-Series Motherboard Drivers
PR 0.8 Core & Levels
I'd had trouble simply getting the damn thing up, but I found a fix in the Vista troubleshooting sections and simply changed a few shortcut parameters so that Vista would read from PR.exe and not BF2.exe ... that worked like a charm, but now, I'm unfortunately stuck at a different point, as mentioned above. The menus are fine, but the instant I try to actually play a game by hitting [DEPLOY], I get an instant CTD (normally, it'd probably lag a bit beforehand, but my system's probably so fast that it kills itself in a much more efficient manner, lol!). Still haven't been able to get a game up and running. If it helps, though, I DO get a list of all the various servers, and there WAS one time where it said, "Joining Server", followed by, "Your connection to the server has been lost," but it didn't CTD that time. Not sure exactly which attempt that was, but it had raised my spirits enough to try it a few more times afterwards

all of which ended up in more quick, disheartening CTDs.

WARNING! You must run Project Reality by running PR.exe, not BF2.exe.
Press ALT+F4 and update your shortcuts!
I have a solution to this that will most likely work. I recently got a new PC that has windows vista and had to struggle with this problem for long. Here's what you should do.
1. Move your pr.exe (text file and launcher) to Program files (x86) --> EA Games --> Battlefield 2 - folder (or wherever your BF2 is installed)
2. Then right click on the pr.exe game launcher and choose properties. Then click on compatibility from the upper bar. Click a check mark on the box that says something like "Run in a compatibility mode" (Don't know the exact words as my vista is in Finnish) and choose windows XP service pack 2.
3. Just to be sure, do the step 2 to any pr.exe launchers you have.
4. Also don't forget to check that your PR shortcut's path is to ""C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1"
Hope it helps.

Hi Peeps,
Yeah I have been struggling to get my PR up and running. I have same problem as quite a few of us have in that I crash to desktop when I hit the deploy button. I have tried ALL of the tweaks that have been posted here already with no luck. I have no problem running any other Mods and have no issues with lag. Come you testers, give us a clue? Thanks.
*** STOP PRESS **** What a noob I am, The problem was with my Shortcut!
It needs to look exactly like this:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
The offending part was the forward slash that I had the wrong way around which I have highlighted in Red. Hope this helps some of you.

I have one of the most unusual problems. I am running a QUAD CORE, 8GB ram etc.
But now.. When I play online for about maybe 30mins, 1hour, 2hours, after a while the game just closes imediately. It says that there is a dll problem or something. It also crashes often when I load a map and it reaches 14%. My resolutions are on higest possible for everything. I just dont know! (im running Vista-_- but have XP)
Any idea's at all?
Thanks so much!
