It sounds like your GPU is over heating, you have to remember a 6200 was never really designed to play games.
You could also do with another gig of RAM, i also suggest getting a new GPU like a 9600GT, this card is very cheap and is an excellent performer.

I'm no expert, but isn't it more reliable for you to have 2 sticks of matched memory? Kinda like the whole not mixing batteries thing? Plus for one it's cheap, and secondly it's foreseeable that all us XP guys will inevitably have to get Vista? Unless game developers start programming for Linux, which I'd much prefer.

Vista seems to constantly need 1 gig of RAM to do pretty much nothing anyway, so you'll have around 3 spare either way ;)

My 8600GT (Acer Aspire 5920) also runs pretty damned hot during PR. I would love to either underclock it or have manual control of fan speed on, I know that it underclocks itself but would like to control it better, I haven;t had any ingame problems except when I turn everything up to high, when I get the OP's problems. Ironically, anyone with the 8600 GS has a higher clock speed than me but I don't think it has the same heat problems. Thankfully for laptop is chunkier than a mac, it runs hot enough already in the space it has!

Try the 175.61 drivers, they have powermizer disabled i think, not had any problems on my laptop so far, but the OEM does match.

get as much ram as you can, seeing as 2 gig of 800mhz ddr2 ram is only £30

Strange Ive played with a 8600GTS and overclocked it tons and it was ok. Must be a notebook thing, serves you right for trying to be bling :p

With ram and lag issues, try rebooting before you play the bigger maps like fools road and qinling.

Also try a program called enditall. It will close all the random **** on your machine not needed for running PR. Its not permanent, if any problem is caused then you reboot and its fine again, but it should just automatically know the programs you dont really need and you can alter the list manually if you like

Qinling takes about 2.2gig alltogether. If you have 2 gig of memory that will mean windows is going to have to shift at least 200meg of windows memory onto the hard drive, it wont do this immediately because windows is dull so your'll have to play a bit before it finally shifts the unneeded data onto the disk while you arent viewing windows.

It should be ok eventually, like I say reduce your overheads because it is a tight fit sometimes. If your disk light flickers during game, you know why your lagging as it should not come on after you have viewed that map grid allready (lag at game start is normal)
