Here's an example basic combat load from the Marines.

Okay, so PR is actually below that with 9 compared to the 13 stated, so no realism for reducing the amount of ammunition and punishes SLs and SMs who take advantage of the Suppression feature, this idea definatly gets a thumbs down from me.

A good chunk of that marines ammo is probably in his assault pack. That would get shit canned during normal patrols and left either at the FOB or in a vehicle. 6-9 Mags is probably right amount of ammo a solider would carry on his person.

Tarantyco, when I use suppressing fire, i do it in Bursts or double taps, so my squad can either move or locate the enemy to take those aimed shots.

[quote="Ironcomatose""]Hell yes!!! SUPPRESSIVE FIRE FTW!!

yea in RL they carry even more!!!!!
but i agree ppl arent shooting enough..ppl try to JUST hit the target instead of providing cover fire so their team can flank
but i do think the MEC needs less ammo because i heard that since they have 7.62 bullets their heavier...so they can carry less

Yes, I was actually going to propose that on the dev forums; a weight-based loadout system. A loaded G3 magazine weighs about 1.74 lbs. (0.79 kg), compared to about 1.1 lbs. (0.48 kg) for the STANAG magazines of the UK and US service rifles. Discounting the weight of the rifles, that's 5 G3 magazines for the same weight as 9 STANAG magazines. 5 mags (100 rounds) was the basic issued load for the M14 during its service life in Vietnam, so that makes it a bit more authentic.
However, one veteran on this forum said he carried as many as 8-9 for his M14 as a DM if his unit was unsure when they would resupply. Also, the MEC has the "home field advantage" and are closer to their supply lines and depots, so they could possibly sacrifice carrying some of their sustenance load for more ammunition.

Imagine carrying 30 round clips for the G3. What little over 2 pounds per mag?

I use lots of ammo. In maps where firefights in the open tend to happen, I mostly use about 1~20 rounds per enemy soldier

Haven't heard of 30 round magazines ever being prototyped or mass-produced for the G3. There was a drum magazine for the G8, but that weapon is a rare bird.

Have to agree with most people here and say no to this. I run out or close to it frequently in a good squad. Especially when using suppresive fire to pin an enemy unit in position so that we can manuever to a flank. Not to mention that we simply don't have the supply logistics ingame that they do IRL.

Changed title for correctness, so Bob_Marley doesn't have to freak out.
