Re: Sprinting
+1
I really agree, the "sprint" needs to be separated from "morning jog". Also Im fairly certain troops in PR dont have the full span of equipment as they are prepped for battle (left the spare stuff), thus running some 80 meters is fair and square, but as you say... it is supposed to be used for making a run for a more suitable wall or box to hide behind, or perhaps just evade that grenade that hit the ground next to you. Sure, you can do it with the current jog, but... imagine a nade landing next to you, would you calmly jog away?

Re: Sprinting
I agree with this... but I think jumping needs to be improved. most of the time it is simulating the act of climbing over something. I hate having to use a couple jumps just to get over a rock or a fallen over tree, and then have less than a quarter of my sprint left. Hey, I would use the "Clime over object" key if it existed.

Re: Sprinting
I can sprint 100 meters in 15 seconds and not feel tired at all, so for a trained soldier who undergone intense physical training during recruitment I'd think he could sprint for a bloody long time (with out his bergan of course), I'm more interested in hearing an opinion from a real soldier and not what you fatty's think

Re: Sprinting
Can you sprint 100 meters in 15 seconds with heavy combat gear (including metal plates on front/back chest area), a rifle with 8 magazines, grenades, etc etc?

Re: Sprinting
The game character can sprint 100m in 20 seconds.... that's 5 m/s with heavy gear (tested this, trust me) and not to mention, I have been able to run 400m+ in .756 with like a 15 second recharge time. Atleast with this suggestion it'll make maps seem a lot bigger with everyone NOT sprinting.

Re: Sprinting
Thing is that you are running that distance completely fresh and havent been carrying said gear for 32 hours straight. Sure I can sprint rather well with it on if I needed to but Id really rather not.ERASERLASER wrote:I cant but maybe a soldier can

Re: Sprinting
Im not stupid I understand your reasoning, and I know sprinting less would be more realistic but lets face it, finding a vehicle thats not driven off by some lone tit (or another whole squad) is usually pretty hard unless its the very start of the battle.Sadist_Cain wrote:/Facepalm Have you read the OP at all? Besides sprint shouldnt function as a means to run yourself around the battlefield as fast as you can, its for evasion and moving from cover to cover.
If you need the sprint to last as long as it does then you must be doing something wrong, be it moving too much on foot OR moving too far on foot in a state of unreadiness
I find myself having to run miles all the time (with my squad), through no fault of my own, so I am not doing anything wrong. remember we are not all real soldiers, there are a lot of people that abuse vehicles and alot of people that are simply not organised enough to use them correctly or un-selfishly.
in short...there is not enough organization from joe-public to use vehicles in a 'realistic' (transportation/taxi for others) fashion...which less sprint would require.

Re: Sprinting
tanky this mod was created to create realism and teamwork. and any little change to help this mod complete that objective...i say do it.
im a soldier,
i have sprinted in full combat gear under fire...how far u may ask....not far in 1 long sprit but probably cover about 250 meters in about 5 minutes maybe. and i was exausted.
though we try not to run sprint or jog with 35 lbs of armor, 20 lbs of ammo, 5-10 lbs of water, 10 lbs weapon, 3 lbs helment, 3 lbs boots, pants and long sleves, gps, batteries, nvg(never leave home without em), radio, more batteries 100 degree heat.
mite roll ur ankle...lol

Re: Sprinting
I'd say if they did this, they should increase the ticket counters as well...
i mean really...
by the time you get to the flag you'd already be way down on tickets...
=) Increase the ticket counts and i will be happy
Besides, it will make a jog in the woods a lot more... well, you'll want to have more people around..
plus all the Counter-strike enthusiasts would probably want to leave cause *foamy voice* "The game play is too slooowww"
^_^ slow gameplay is fun gameplay, especially when you get the thrill of fighting for your virtual life..
though i believe that the sprint meter should replenish albiet a bit quicker
plus, for the people who want the visual bar gone, that actually must stay. It's more of a visual representation of what we would actually feel. We FEEL when we can run more. Actually, with adreniline, i'm sure we'd feel much faster, though we'd probably just get clumsier, so i think the bar should be extended to show a point of excess energy you can use, but if you use that excess energy your aiming gets a bit shaking or something that i have no clue how the bf2 engine works XD

Re: Sprinting
hmm...i like this suggestion, but, i also happen to like the sprint as it is now, first of all its not much of a sprint as is and more of a run. besides who the hell in a game where the battlefield is only 2-4x2-4 km map actually do patrols? if you know where the enemy is, your not patroling, so it's perfectly justified that you would run instead of walk, especialy when combat is allready in action.
the speed is another thing, right now its the same pace as a soldier on a heavy jog not really a sprint, and they are trained to do that for a long time.

Re: Sprinting
If you have a faster, albeit shorter sprint and and increased jog/walk speed, it might just be possible that the average speed of ground coverage wouldn't be that different from the slow jog/longer run we have now.
Anyway, we might as well wait and see whats changed before we start whinging like school girls.

Re: Sprinting
just after you done a sprint. make a dissy effect. or let it take a longer time before you can shoot straight. then sprint will be used more as a tactical move..
but i like the speed as it is now.

Re: Sprinting
im a pretty well-conditioned guy (not as well as a slodier mind you), and i can run at the PR pace for about 400-500 meters (once around the track). so, assuming that you are a more conditioned soldier, that would extend it to 600-650m, but the the weight cuts that down to 200-300m or so so bam! the only problem is that your energy recharges wayy too fast. it takes me a good minute or two (of standing still or walking, not jogging like in PR) before i can run another 400 at the same pace. IMO, keep energy amount the same, but increase recharge time and make recharge much slower while moving.

that sounds like a much more sensible suggestion
