Always, 6 guys with 2 landies, 1 APC and 2 riflemen and 1 marksmen can hold out anything.

Defended it today, got 9 kills with .50 plus a couple others as marksman. 5 of the 9 .50 kills were RPGs, so yes it is important.

Don't forget those technicals, and two bomb cars
also saved an APC from death

Situation: Bridges unreliable, Insurgent Ambushers have them mined and have the ford covered. Friendly APC/Tank is badly damaged and needs to retreat to a safe area to rearm and repair.00SoldierofFortune00 wrote:It has limited overwatch potential though because of the view distance. And once you are inside VCP, you are pretty much trapped because the insurgents will occupy the village South of it near the Mosque, and all the buildings and small villages around it. You pretty much trap yourself inside and it is horrible as a point to operate out of because you have to cross open desert to make it to the city or the spots where the caches are found.
You have RPs for that too. Going from VCP to city is 10x harder than your own squad's RP in the city or elsewhere because you have to cross open desert to get to any spot where a cache will respawn and the insurgents have the advantage of high ground near the village and city.
Result (VCP Not Held) APC/Tank attempts to retreat to the airport to repair but must cross the ford or mined bridge. Enemy lying in wait destroys APC/Tank during crossing, 10 tickets lost + crew + passengers, heavy asset unavailable.
Result (VCP Held) Safe area and crossing assured, APC/tank retreats to VCP where it is rearmed and repaired not having to risk trying to cross unreliable bridges. While it is repairing it is in the heart of a well defended area. APC/tank is made fully operational, returns to the field to provide armored support to squads searching for cache.

There is no gurantee at all that just because you hold VCP, that you will also hold the bridge up. All it takes is just 1 engineer to walk along the water and come up behind them.Tirak wrote:Situation: Bridges unreliable, Insurgent Ambushers have them mined and have the ford covered. And if you do put enough people there to defend it which would require at least 1 full squad minimum, it would take 6 men away from searching for caches and give the insurgents an unlimited amount of UK troops to kill because they know where they are. Also, you need people to take out the insurgent bridges in the beginning, so now you have even fewer squads searching for caches.
And tanks don't spawn straight out, so the chances of the bridge going down are high anyway.
With Basrah, individual squads and RPs are the way to win. The tanks come in handy up against the Village to the south of the Airfield or the Village south of VCP, but other than that, they cannot get into those small nooks where the caches usually are unless you have the coordination of teamspeak or something.

True, but I don't think you can guarantee much 100% in life00SoldierofFortune00 wrote:There is no gurantee at all that just because you hold VCP, that you will also hold the bridge up. All it takes is just 1 engineer to walk along the water and come up behind them.
If som1 is covering the north, there is a good chance you can catch that ambusher b4 he places his IEDs, or at least know when the bridge is rigged

Re: Do you defend VCP?
Bump
I've defended VCP loads of times, my new tactic is to wire up vcp and then place sand bags and 50cals under the sign post down the road. Your closer to the city and so can put down more effective fire and there is alot of room for armour to get repairs off your engies while at the same time keeping their gun in play as well. Also it is much better for getting supplys as well. Now that bunkers don't give ammo you rely on the Merlin for the most part. The southern road is much easier for helos to land on than inside vcp. Works well with the mortars as well, the insurgents are likely to bomb your southern emplacements and that will leave the bunker in vcp safe. While if the bomb the bunker you just run up and rebuild it.
Keeping one landy behind the emplacements is good as well both for fire support and because you can mount patrols into the west village and farm land looking for caches. Help's with cache hunting generally and it gives the guys something to do during down time. Just make sure the driver is someone you trust, because if you send some guys out and the driver is a nublet he may refuse to drive back to you and take half your squad off on a rambo.
Can have alot of trouble with snipers however and one good RPG can end half the squad so need to make sure the guys have their eye peeled at all times for movement.

JuniperM40 and myself have a classic tactic thats a winner, setup VCP with bunker, .50 cals, sandbags on front and rear entrance and put razor wire in front of them, have one APC take a firing position and make sure you got plenty o crates and one dedicated squad to use all of this.

Re: Do you defend VCP?
I've found that holding it just lets insurgents know where you are and that you have an apc or a squad in there doing nothing. If the insurgents are smart they leave you alone and defend their caches, making the vcp obsolete to hold.
It is often better to put a bunker or FOB closer to the city so that it does actually draw insurgents away because of being a larger threat. One set of eyes can see everything that goes in or out of VCP, but put a FOB in the city behind buildings and it is more of a threat.
IMO using APCs as a static gun emplacement is a waste of resources that could be used helping to clear out buildings and areas in order to sweep and clear the city of caches.
If they changed the VCP to a southern location and gave it a spawner like how Laniyal in Korrengal spawns the stryker and helo at main then it would be of more import than it is currently. Having to hold it to have APCs/Tanks/Helo spawn would be a good solution to having something dynamic with it in game.

Defending VCP, is my past time, I just Fing love it. Its so fun, as the INS always decide to try and blow it up, and usually get minced by the .50, VCP VOIP squads for the win baby!

Hate to break your winner but the new mortars mean that old tactic is a no no, the bad guys just bomb you out without even trying.

Insurgent players are like moths to a flame when the cache they are at hasn't been attacked for ages. Someone always attacks VCP never not seen them do so when the brits are defending it.

It's more fun to set out with a convoy of 2 Landys from there at the beginning of the round!!

Which is always a dumb move for insurgents and why I always volunteer to be commander when playing that mode/map.vilhelm123 wrote:Insurgent players are like moths to a flame when the cache they are at hasn't been attacked for ages. Re: Do you defend VCP?
Tried defending last night and got pwned hard, got very irate
all I can say is, som1 other than the medic get on that 50. please...the medic will have to get off and heal people eventually.
Bomb cars pwned us hard because we didn't keep those 50. cals up (all around the map, not just VCP)
