My best piece of advice I can give you is Dont try being a sniper or pilot first off

Practice piloting on a local server LOTS before going for it

As for knowing the tactics and skills and so forth of what a Sniper can do a LOT of people say that when really they've heard basics such as relocating etc etc (My fav trick whilest on the subject is wounding a player, waiting for his medic, then blowing his head off) My father was a sniper instructer during his career at one point and even I hardly ever bother with the kit

Pr is a lot more about playing with other memebers of your team, a good sniper will sit for ages not taking a single shot and just giving recon on enemies so we can do the dirty work, occaisionally he'll pop out a medic, H-AT or an SL but a good sniper is mainly recon

The most fun you'll have is joining a Teamwork, TG, VOIP Eng, TW, or TACTEAM squad and following the orders of your SL

Remember you are NOT a Duckling, so dont follow in a straight line towards every thing, Ask your SL for permission to engage if it's first contact with the enemy... If you're a support gunner watch the squad and lay down support fire on the enemies line of fire, If you're a medic dont go charging in first And so on
If you're securing a flag check your squadmates arcs of fire and secure the gap

Welcome to a whole new level ;) you'll find me on the [T&T] website Tactics & Teamwork :: "Like Minded Gaming" if youve ever got questions and I've always got a space in my squad for someone eager to learn :D

a responce to question #2

Player quality is very high. a very minute percentage (like 2-5%) get it in their heads that they want to skrew around, but server admins are very vigilant at erradicating the smacktard menace.
You cant bunnyhop, because you will lose all your jump stamina and get wasted in 0.2 seconds.
Same for dolphin diving. when good players start up a game and they know what they want to do, they will take the special requestable kits, and a great amount of people will mainly use the basic kits, which are hella-hard to use for smacktardary. the worst they can do is Teamkill, and as soon as that happens, an admin will most likely question the incidente...but this greatly depends on the server. an easy way to judge if you are on a good server, is to check the population count imo. The high pop servers, are usually run by very professional administrators with a rule set that demands tactical and communicative squadwork. they ususally have a team of admins ready to answer questions with an active website which include many question answering subsections.

I think, if you are into following rules and communication, you'll really like Project Reality.

Well thanks a lot for the tips guys.

About the sniping again. I understand that a sniper is best used as recon and taking out high valued targets if needed, and relocating after every shot. I am also aware of escape and evasion techniques if a sniper is discovered. I think I will practice as you guys recommend. But I do indeed think, once I am familiar with the mod and all its features, I will be a great asset to any team that I will be taking on the role of sniper/spotter.

And with the flying, I think I'll give it a miss.
Let the big boys handle the big flying jets with bombs lol.

Hey SJT, if you add me on xfire I'll give you a quick low-down of everything you need to know on a private server and how things such as CAS and JDAMs work. Just add cs01 to xfire (or if anyone else just fancies a game add me too :p .)

Being new to PR can be really immersive and fun. Maps and everything are new. It's like a real war and a lot of what is going on around you is kind of tense and mysterious. First and foremost read the manual at least once over before you play at all.

When you play a round. first and foremost find a good squad. Pay attention to what number your squad is. Know that you can only spawn on your squad's rally points. Firebases and Bunkers and of course your main flag. I remember getting tangled up with the spawning a few times when I first started.

Use the basic kits, stay within 15 or so yards of your squadleader as much as you can. Try to listen to the comm and follow what is going on. Pay attention to where your boys are shooting. Friendly fire accidents are really common when you are new so learn what your team looks like and what bad guys team are dressed like.

Go back after a good days worth of play and review the manual see how much of it makes sense the second time around. There are a lot of nuances you learn as you go along. I have been playing since the beginning of the summer and I still am often learning new things.

From there graduate on after learning the maps a little to advanced kits. You can try being the squad's marksman and working with your squadleader giving them overwatch from an improved position.

I wouldn't even mess with aircraft for awhile till you get used to the maps and the terminology.

It all is, but nicer and easier if someone explains it all.

and the number one rule if you're going to fly...

PRACTICE MODE! Nothing's more annoying than people trying the jets for the first time on a crowded server. Crash is pretty much imminent.

Im amazed, I hosted a practice server and played a bit on there with SJT and, lag issues asside, he was a great player, quick to grasp all the things like wait before you shoot and whats kits do what etc, hell we even called in some JDAMs and practiced CAS, and if that wasn't enough on his second (yes, second!) attempt, he took off, flew and landed an A-10 on Quinling.

Looking forward to playing with you on some real servers SJT and hope you can cure the lag and VoIP problems.

PR is a bit hardware intensive, so you may want to lower you settings a bit. What are your system specs?

I put everything at low and it seemed ok. Was doing a bit of sniping and piloting lol. Got some good practice, and tbh its not that hard at all haha. Wish I had VOIP but when it is activated, my PC screwes up, it lags very bad, and my PC beeps.

BloodAce wrote:Hey VOIP is a must in PR so i recommend you fix that asap. Also a good headset with decent microphone so you don't use speakers.
Most squad leaders will not want you to run with sniper kit so i advice to learn with standard rifleman gear or marksman if you like shooting to longer distance.

Welcome aboard :)
Hooah,got one.

It s a shame there aren't more sniper kits though. I play with the sniper kit on bf2 all the time and I am pretty good with it...

Des Marksman will probably fill the void....
