How do unlocks reflect reality? Does a would I get a visit from a Field Commander and tell me: "Ghostrider, you just killed your 15th enemy combatant, got a promotion and got a new unlock. Here you go."
I don't think it will destroy the Mod, BUT it could end up attracting people for the wrong reasons (unlocks instead of more realism) and after they get the "surprice! Unlocks aren't as important here!" then they will leave.
The loyal fans will stick to the Mod, regardless of updates or not. That said, we do need some updates. Maybe to start posting about things that have been completed (or almost completed) for version0.3?
Anyways, normally the best advertising has to be done by our own community. The community should spread the word around as well. How do you think good things sell themselves when threre's not as much official advertising as some1 would expect? When people like something, they go to their friends and say: "You should try PRMM online. I love it!"

PS: How do you think Halo, Metal Gear Solid, StarCraft (among others) sold so many copies?? The same applies to the Mod

- Have servers that play maps that use a variety of vehicles, tanks, apc's, copters, planes etc etc
- Stop telling people "NO TANKS" or some **** like that
- Stop gettting so pissed at new people becuase they are not at first working as a squad
- stop getting mad at SL's becuase they arent doing something the way you would like to be done.
- Stop telling people what they can and cannot do
I think just doing that will greatly increase PR's popularity, its a game not a stress inducer, people should be able to play what they want, using what they want (of course with some logical exceptions, kamikaze, sniper wars etc etc).

your logical exception is my legitimate tactic.
be more black and white.
anyways, my 2 cents on this whole thread...
bf2 style unlocks = ****, totally unrealistic. Class revamp, so we get more customized kit options, however, would be nice, see the massive amount of threads on kit layouts to see where that is most likely headed.
ranking: personally, i don't give a damn, untill someone figures out a truely relative system. even then, you can never look at some ones stats and be 100% sure taht since they are one point better, they are a better player.
awards and stuff are nice to have, but they really just reflect time playing, not so much skill.
we need maps redone so that we dont have to scream no tanks all the time.
the way to attract more players is to further refine the game based on 'real' (actual dedicated players, not average joe with random opinion) player opinions and preferences, and to advertise the mod with a good slogan. something like
"tired of bf2's retarted players, lack of team work, guns that hurt less than bbs and shittily balanced maps? looking for something a little bit more like a real battle and less like and arcade mockery of one? prmm is your bag then"
some updates (at least once every two weeks) would be preferable, but it is hard to showcasing coding successes.

Agree.

Agree. The only use of ranks today is to get the unlocks. But since prmm will be adding more (selectable) weapons, this issue needs no more discussion in this thread.

Agree. Ingame shots are the most impressive in my opinion.

As well as renders, but if you get a good ingame shot it can be just that much more rewarding
Just allways make sure, you get the best quility, high rez pics you can when you take them. This means make a 2nd account, that has all its grphics settings on FULL, lag dont matter you only want screenshots from it not to shoot ppl

I can run prmm at 1280 by 1024 with all settings on high, with 4 AA and 4 Ansiotropic at a healthy 35 (intercity, smoke nades, lots of combat) - 80 (no combat, few statics) framerate. average at about 45, never dips below 35, unless im inthe middle of a smoke nade, where it drops to like 15...
point being, i dont need two accounts to take nice shots.

ok....
still after that post the point still remains that the bigger and better the pics, the more ppl will like them

A Joe R. Newbie sounding in :
The two above are your main selling points in my opinion. After getting the hang of it the mod was really fun, eventho I haven't had the time to play it much.
The more realistic approach is great, and if you make some infantry-oriented maps (or have some already ?) to go with it i think there's a market for it. This is one point the vbf2 is severely lacking, and for me groundpounder vs groundpounder is where it's at.
Oh, and maybe some battlereports describing the actual feeling of the ga,e/combat would be good for 'marketdroiding' because it's all diff from vbf2 - i remember runnning in the woods feeling scared of being shot because in vbf2 you prone/jump, find the enemy, return fire, and even kill him , but in pr it's more like "ricochet, ricochet, punctured cranium , wait for spawn".

yeah if no tanks are wanted then vehicles should be removed from the server and the server should state that there are no vehicles.

BF2 players are down overall. its not just any particular mod. check out the servers of vanilla bf2...used to be upwards of 6 thousand...and now...

THe title of the traed should be change to "How to attract more INTELLIGENT player". I dislike games with players who only know how to point their gun in the right direction and fire it!

Sorry in advance for the long post. Well i would say stop kicking players for using their heads and playing defensively and getting kills. Last night there were four of us playing as a squad, with two additional PRM players in our squad as well, these are all people i fly on flight sims with as well as BF2 and all good lads, we were on a server in fact the only server we could find that had some numbers in it with a ping low enough for us UK players, we were on Steel thunder i think its called and both sides owned the bases on their respective sides of the river, lots of cross bridge firing and my mucker was tucked away in a building as the squad leader and we had repulsed several attacks and were holding the flag when all of a sudden he got kicked and could not return, so i asked the guys who ran the server if they had banned him as there were several there, one replied 'tell him to try getting back in again' he couldn't so we decided to leave and find another server and that meant they lost 20% of their players straight away, one of the other lads noticed just before he quit that someone had typed that he had been kicked for camping a flag, now i call that being defensive and the whole squad was staying at that flag as we were being attacked all the time, the only difference was that my mate was playing support and everytime they tried to sneak to the flag through the building he was hiding in he nailed them, now this just smacks to me of sour grapes because an admin got killed once too often and it isn't a way to encourage players to try the mod never mind encourage players who have a team minded approach and like to play a game the way its meant to be played, who have played online together for years and are branching out and trying new mods to get away from vanilla BF2......... Just my thoughts and by the way we ended up in a small server with just 6 of us on each side and had a cracking time on karkand with the match going both ways for ages with neither side ruling the map and a close finish the way it should be.

I says lets all say "screw dice" and then the PRMM guys can make their own game. That would be sweet. Take all the good elements from BF2, PRMM, Joint Operations, and America's Army and create the most realistic game ever made. Then, with proper ads take all the BF2 players and Dice will die.
