Alright, sorry if I sounded like i was claiming to know how combat really is, I just repeated the reason why the suppression effect was included by the Dev's. I've never been shot at, so I dont know what I'd to, but I'd imagine keeping my head down would be the best choice if i have cover.
Back in the older versions of PR, around 0.5 or even earlier, we had a similiar effect to the one we have right now - the effect you get in Vanilla BF2 when you are standing to a tank firing or something else thats very loud. You hear your heartbeat and the screen gets a little bit blurry for a second. In later versions the effect has been increased, because tactics that the Dev's think to be realistic - suppressing and flanking - didn't really work out every time. So the effect was changed: The borders of the screen turn dark when you're under fire. The option to just shoot back is reduced and the player is meant to take cover to allow the use of suppressive fire tactics. We can argue about how good it is to enforce player behaviour with a visual effect, but there is no way to turn it off in game, and to me it seems like a better option than the kind of firefights you have in normal BF2. Of course it doesnt work every time, some players still shoot back, some players dont use these tactics, but the mod is still WIP and personaly i like the effect. Actually, it has been "reduced" with the current version - pistols and submachineguns do not trigger the effect anymore; also, the effect is not triggered by someone closer than 25m to you. So it is not as annoying in close quarters as before.
