I would say keep the zoom its already hard enough trying to hit something only 100 meters in front of you with it, some weapons have a small piece of glass embedded within the rear signt that allows you to move it further forward and backwards to give you a small zoom increase at ranges to enage targets further away i know the SA80 uses this simple method for its iron signt unit.

Maybe being able to switch it from normal view to zoomed view would be a nice way of dealing with the problems found within close combat fighting.
