It would so sweet if they did that. But I can't see it happening. Would be nice if they made it so that the normal BV2v was just as it is IE: 64 max players. That would keep the maps and RANKs system in place. But make is so that the MODs that use BF2 can unlock the max player limit to what ever the MOD team think they can handle. Sure would be nice to have 128 players on "Battle For Q".

All you will get from 1.5 is broken PR.

Guys, IMO 128 is too many for say OGT, Mestia, Fools road etc 64 is fine, however if they bump it up to 80, then make squads 8 man, that is 10 squads of 8 which is plenty. That in my mind is ideal.

A goal of a business is to make / have something people want and sell it.
If you had the option of adding more players per game in your old product, or save this sought after feature at no cost to you for your new product, which one would you choose to get maximum money when selling your new product ?
As much as I'd like it to happen it wont, so please prove me wrong ea !

It's not a requirement for us to use the most updated patch of PR, the only people it would harm is people that still wanna play BF2 as well as PR, people which I assume are in a very slim minority anyway. Not that I'm against minorities having a say before you take it THAT way

but it'd be up to people to make their own choice of which game they see as more important.
Anyway that's only if EA reeeally messed stuff up, I really don't think they're bad enough to alter something that would **** with heavily modded mods. I'd imagine it'll just be some minor "fixes" and maybe a sub-prime map or two.

He's talking about something very different to what we are. A normal server can run several BF2 games simultaneously in the background. If upping the player count to 128 people meant having half as many servers, then it would be worth it. As it stands, we're more likely to be talking about an up to 80ish people, which would still be very doable with current architectures.

Sorry for the double post, but this addresses something very distinct from the last one.
This whole debate about the economic viability of adding new features to old mods is pointless. The problem that mods have with BF2 is the EULA which prevents all but the most rudimentry of changes from being implemented. With a slightly different EULA, the PR team (if so inclined) could pretty much make most of our wildest dreams a reality. Of course some things would simply take too long to code (real weapons sway, free floating sights etc), but some stuff which just seems mind numbingly easy to code (old DoD style recoil, player limits in maps etc) could almost be fixed in a minipatch. The final point is that changing the EULA would cost next to nothing, as well as not endangering EA's future releases by overshadowing them with new features for an old game.
Changing what modders can do won't stop people from buying Bad Company because none of the mods are even competing for the same players as Bad Company. If anything the continuing mismanagement of the community scene by EA has left a sour taste in a lot of potential customer's mouths - I for one will never be buying a single EA game until substantive changes are made to how their Modding tools and EULA's work. As far as I'm concerned, a game with the restrictive EULA's and lack of community support that EA standardly produces, is a half finished game, bordering on being unfair to sell. If in the future I decide that an EA game is "must have" then I will have it by illegal means and pay the money I would have spent on it either to charity or to an Open Source organisation. There probably aren't many who are as militant about this as I am, but there are a lot of people who are boycotting EA products, or are at the very least highly disinclined to buy them over a competing product.
These economic arguments about the viability of sales are moot. EA could gain a hell of a lot very cheaply by fixing their outmoded policies.

actually isn't it dice that does the patch...?
i find dice to be a little better than ea, cause ea has a whole bunch of stuff (harry potter, madden, all the sports games they bought out, and other things no one really cares about)

maybe we should beg to Dice instead XD
and a point to the above statement:
i'm sure we'd love to move to the new frostbite engine, if that ment we could have more destructable buildings and ... the dreaded F word... > >

DICE in Sweden is making this latest patch, before it was the Canada branch.

still, it's Dice. Maybe if we talk directly to them.. i'm sure BSS is a big enough group to get them to listen... besides doesn't PR have more players than pretty much everything else combined or something of the sort... i know it sure has more than their expansions at least....

the eula could be changed if dice and ea allowed it, and we could do what we want to the exe.
and if they say it's for profit, it's really not, i mean just look at the "off topic" section... the dev's are BEGGING for sponsership XD
guess it's just wishful thinking..
i really just want 82 player limit.... (20 squads of 8, 2 commanders combined)

Electronic Arts Inc. ?

should i remind you just cause the owner of dice is EA doesn't mean Dice acts like EA?
at least they're coming OUT with patches for BF2 still...
their NASCAR Sim Racing Game... they had ONE... it made it so you could actually get in game, thats it XD

Should I remind you that if EA says 'jump', DICE will either jump or die.
Guess who is paying salaries. DICE can't do s**t, if EA doesn't give it's OK.

Technically couldnt you do hundreds of people in one server? I mean the server would be rediculously priced, but MMO's like Lineage 2 can have 5000 people online at a server, and 1000 could be in an area like a city or castle siege smaller than the size of a BF2 map...maybe connecting to shooters would be a whole different story, but if someone really paid like $5000 for a server and $100 monthly, could it be done?

obZen, yes, read the first message - it's not a problem for the server, the problem is the client - the BF2.EXE application itself.
It can not stand more than 64 people on the server, it disconnects/crashes.
Even now IT IS POSSIBLE to start a PR server for 128 players, and it works fine showing 64/128, but you can't get 65 guys on the server, that's impossible without a special patch.
Guys, this is what I was looking for. YES, EA will do only stuff that they believe will get them more money. But at the same time, they are paying attention what's going on in the heads of their consumers. So if we make a HUGE noise about 128 players, some executive guy will see a good chance for his old, forgotten project.

Someone who lives near main EA building or DICE in sweden, take an apointment, talk to the main guy and if he does not listen bomb hees office to hell, easy as that...........
Clearly i went a little frustrated off the hook...like everyone else
But at least talk to the guy...
If the main buildings where in the farthest of the corners in croatia id go ant talk to the guy, serriously, maybe id just make it worse but at least i would try...
