Correct that the US Army does not use the Mk-153 SMAW launcher, but the Marines do use the AT4 at the rifle squad level, just like the Army. Two different kinds of weapon. The AT4, like the other L-AT weapons represented in PR, is a single-shot, disposable anti-armor weapon issued as a round of ammunition and operated by any infantryman trained in its use. The Mk-153 SMAW is found in the weapons platoons of the Marine rifle companies in the assault section, and is operated by specialist gunners with a their own MOS- Anti-tank Assaultman. In addition to operating the SMAW they are trained in the use of demolitions (breaching obstacles, primarily) and anti-tank mines.charliegrs wrote:couldnt we keep the AT4 for the US armys light AT, and change the USMC light AT to the SMAW? as far as i know, the army doesnt use the SMAW only the marines do. would help to further differentiate the two factions.
The M141 Bunker Defeat Munition (BDM), a single-shot disposable version of the HEDP round used by the Mk-153 SMAW, is used by the Army and issued on an as needed basis along with or instead of the AT4, because of its better performance against structures.
