You kinda lost me on "a player sets his own objective" thing. Does this basically mean that there are set objectives, but you're not forced to do them(kinda like BF2)?
Well, I think what he was refering to is that you can make whatever type of mission you want, it is COMPLETELY open-ended in that sense.
It all depends on how the mission is made; you can make a mission where you MUST following very specific instructions, or it could be you are given 10 men, you have to take this town in the next hour.
The best way to describe the OFP mission editor is "sandbox".
Also, how does the server system work? Is it one massive server like a MMOFPS, or individual servers? Also, how many players do you usually find on a server?
It is not exactly know how the server will work in ArmA, but in OFP it was simply a client-server connection like any other game ( except the lack of Join In Progress

??: ), they have told us that JiP WILL be in ArmA, and new and improved net code will be implemented. Also, BIS ( the developers ) have said that the servers will be able to hold 60+ players and "lots of AI"; how many AI? No one knows yet, but if OFP is anything to go by, you could be looking at about 400+ ( yes, Four-Hundred plus ) UNITS ( individual soldiers ) on a map at any one time, with 60 of these being players.
How well will this run? It all will depend on the machines.
Right now, in OFP, I have made a map where there are about 250 units on the map ( all fighting in the same battle, about a 10km^2 area ) and it has only a very slight slow-down, however, this IS on a LAN, I'm sure it would slow down with more players on the server ( non-dedicated ), but that is still pretty damn impressive for a nearly 5 year old game.
and about 'Going' AA.... well... there is no other choice? is there...?
Ahh, its true, ArmA WILL own all ... sooner or later ...
Until "Game 2" that is
