The big cow has been made faster I think. I flew it and rather enjoyed it.

Agreed.

My favorite is the MEC Skycow. Nice and comfortable, and it is easier to get in a skycow squad than a merlin or Blackhawk squad, since no one likes the Skycow. They just have to give it a chance. It is always smooth and predictable, unlike the Huey (my least favorite), never goes too fast, but fast enough to escape a .50 if you fly right. You can never over exaggerate a turn or move. Warm up time is good, too. Little bird takes like two minutes.

Blackhawk is my second favorite. Smooth and fast, although you have to work to counter-act a single over exaggeration. And passengers always fire the miniguns, on the Skycow it isn't a problem so much.

I kinda like the Merlin's handling, but I feel that it is too prone to landing damage. A slight bump does more damage to a Merlin than the Skycow, it seems.

I haven't had much experience with the PLA cow, but when I first flew it I felt right at home (similar to the MEC Skycow). The first live round I few it, I never crashed. I got more points than anyone else that round.

On the subject of the topic, while maybe a few aspects of flying may be out of proportion, I think it is just right for PR. Any more "realism" would be horrible for gameplay, and crashes would skyrocket.

the chopper speed is pretty realistic, but the big problem is that they dont retain momentum. realistically, when you pitch forward and get the heli going, you can level off and the chopper will continue to go forward. in bf2 and PR, if you level, the chopper stops, and if you pitch backwards, your heli flys backwards. if anyone has played Grand Theft Auto IV, youd know what i mean when i say they got the heli physics nearly perfected. to stop your heli, you have to pitch back until your thrust has neutralized your momentum. GTAIV did great with the helis. thats a good model to go off of.

The Z-10 attack helicopter (PLA attack chopper) has some dodgy undercarriage. The front suspension seems too soft which causes the chopper to nosedive on all but the softest landings.

since we are talking realistic... what about not being able to fly or drive an enemy chopper or drive an enemy vehicle? oh, what? we dont have the "magic key" ?????? freaking ridiculous.

It takes weeks, months or even years of training to learn how to operate sophisticated military equipment effectively. Just because you know how to fly a F-16, doesn't mean you can just hop in a Mig and be able to fly it. Not to mention that all the controls on an OPFOR's equipment is likely to be in a entirely different language.

And then there is the factor that you are likely to be shot down by your own country because you don't have the the correct ID etc.

yeah, but I think he means when driving just regular jeeps too.

Anyway best chopper to fly is probably the merlin, its speed and handling are great. Like a mix of the sky cow and the black hawk.

Just wondering. The Huey isn't it made in the US, so shouldn't it have MPH on the HUD instead of KPH
I understand you guys want a start-up time to delay the immediate use of a helicopter, but please, don't make it roll over if you try to pull pitch before the startup is complete because it's weird and annoying, also because you can't really know when the start-up has been completed.
When you think your at the 30'sec mark with the warm up , take the power to 40% and then down, do it twice and then power up to 100% you won't flip then. 10 extra seconds worth the wait instead of 10mins.

The Skycow is MECs main transport helicopter. It's big, fat and slow and resembles in an abstract way a cow with its tail sticking straight back.

Actually, the MEC transport is called the Mi-17 Hip.

EDIT: Well I guess I'm the only one who's never heard the nickname. If I hear one coming, I just say "Hip incoming at 135!"

AIr speed is measured in Knots not in mph or Kilometers per hour

1 bf2 speed unit = 0.375 km/h

So for example 800 bf2 units = 300 km/h

There are problems with the handling of choppers in game, but I've never seen a BF2 engine game make it feel anything near right. The biggest problem I can see is that BF2 doesn't handle inertia properly. If we could get physics halfway between DC and PR, I'd be a happy chappy (though how realistic it would be is another matter).

As far as I know, it's mostly engine constraints.
