the latest articles on the subject that I've read hav said that the XM-8 might be used by one branch of the US military, but that the idea of there being a universal weapon for the US forces is gone, with each group choosing different replacements for the M4/M16 due to having different requirements. N no, I don't hav any links, although http://www.fas.org might have something on it.

As to having the UAV destroyable, sounds like a good idea, but I'd say only 1 SAM, seeing as this is a realism mod, and UAVs aren't that strong.

Even HK is trying to cover their *** in case the M8 never makes it into full scale production. Hence the so-called new HK M4 rifle. Colt has Bushmaster and HK in court over the weapon. They're probably pretty pissed about the government choosing FN to make their M16 family of rifles so they want to prevent those other two companies from taking away more money.

yeh, thats understandable, there's always a lot of bickering that goes on between companies when the military starts lookin into new gear.

Well all i know is that the Military has a group of soldiers out in Iraq using the new M-8 rifles. I dont have a link to it but i herd it on the news and on another clip somwhere on CNN. I know the military said the testing was doing better then they had thought, and that they hope it keeps going that way.

As for the UAV... sure, 1 SAM could take it out... just gonna suck for the Gen when he has only one.. and everytime he flies it out it gets shot down.. but this is a reality mod right?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's already being used in Iraq. The small number of SR-47's that were produced supposedly ended up in Afghanistan really fast. Some other soldiers/CIA might even be using M4's with 6.5mm Grendel or 6.8mm SPC rounds to see how they perform compared to standard 5.56mm and 7.62mm.

Yeh it wouldn't surprise me if there are some in use in some soughta combat testing stage or something, and I do believe it was the marines who were planning on changing to the M8
