And please dont say thats because I am a lame nub when it comes to commanding because in .7 and .75 I commanded for well over a 100 matches in various severs while sittin in my fing command truck!!!
I think the commander should get his own special command truck (stick a box and the radar on the duce and your done!) or hell just chain him to the regular duce
Exactly what a commander needs... would be cool to see a HEMMT IIRC made by motherdear (looks awesome btw

)
With a Commander addon on the back, that would be the coolest vehicle arround

First off, LOL.
I'll say it flat out, commanding is terrible at this point. Of course you're useful to the team being commander, but usually when I command now it's because I'm doing something else for a while and I'm too focused on something else to run around. Before .8, I used to command nearly every round I played when I got to a certain point, and I had a very high winning percentage. Hell, I used to command BF2142 and had a 100% winning percentage out of 45 games on titan for that. This just turns me off though, I used to be a front line commander, driving my command truck to various squads, delivering crates, driving stranded members etc. Commanding is something that's easy to do as long as you have a plan and if something happens, you just set what you're doing aside for a minute or two so that you can get the right people on the spot to do it. Now, when I command I just create smiley faces and other shapes around the map.
Let's be honest, being a commander helps your team, but I'm sure a majority of the people on this forum play for fun, and not to do tedious work. Sorry, but a job doesn't attract players to a spot.

I think this is one point where realism will have to give way to gameplay. I know PR is a realism mod, but it still has to be fun, or else no one will be willing to sink an hour into a round.

There are plenty of people that enjoy the current commander role. Yes there's no action, but that's not where the fun is in .8 commanding, it's in getting your team organised and coordinated, and knowing they're playing much better then they would without you.
I don't like the role myself cos I'm not that great at any sort of multi taking (hence why I kinda suck at the drums no matter how hard I try), but I can see why people would find getting a Blackhawk in to a squad that needs evacuating, while having them covered by an Apache, while taking contact reports from a squad on the other side of the map and telling armour where to find the tank that might otherwise destroy them. When your team actually bothers to take orders from a commander, I can see why it's rewarding for the people that do it.

what if we give the commander a way to say mobile and hidden, and as well the option of defending yourself, but not giving him a chance to be a l33t killing machine?
Kit:
1 knife
2 faction smoke
3 PDW (2+1 mags, ironsight/aimpoint, PDW like MP5 or MP7, scorpion-like)
4 mobile command post... a laptop, PPC or something like that? long deploy time to encourage the instant "deploy - time" on the real CP
5 Field dressing( NON-PLURAL )

It just doesn't really make any sense, a guys doing this kind of commanding would most likely be sat on his arse with a radio as far as I know, it wouldn't do his troops any good to be out on the field where he's much more likely to be killed.

Cant the devs change the way the "commanding screen looks like?"
Also if the SL had to request kits from the commander, and he would only give the kit if they followed orders. That way the commander could deny SL that didnt participate in the "team". And hiearchy would be restored.
See in PR SM are the only guys who can get "consequenses" for being retarded. But you should give the Commander the ability to "punish" the SL.
Information flow, make the SL more reliant on the commander, the SL should only see what they can see and what the commander reveals to him. This way the SL has to follow the commander, or he will go blind.
Make SL reliant on Commander, so when there is a Commander it will be easier. I dont know, i just think information is what keeps the hiearchy togheter in a way where people dont have to be kicked in order to be put into the right place.
Anyone getting me?

either give him something stupid like a boys anti tank rifle...
or, the only weapon he can use is his field marshals baton... to club people
and + 1 for the officers hat!

Whats the point in having a mobile commander? I don't get it. Wouldn't being squad leader of a squad dedicated to building/supplying be a better alternative? How is a commander that is driving a vehicle going to be an asset to the team? A commander should be looking at his map and communicating with squad leaders.
It's true, lately 99% of the games have no real commanders. But it's the games in that 1% I remember the most. There's a sweet satisfaction in spotting targets and watching the blue mob swarm like an army of ants. Sure you could type it out in team chat, blah blah blah, but that relies on too many people to actually work. With a commander you have someone waiting for stuff like this, with power to put things in motion.
As for the kit, i'm with gclark....
gclark03 wrote:Well, why not give the Commander something more than a leotard?
1) Knife
2) Pistol (no PDWs)
3) Binoculars
4) Faction signal grenades
5) NO field dressings (if he's stupid enough to get shot, he should die without Medic support)
Gotta have that colored smoke so when you fail and the enemy is about to overrun your main you can call in transport to the corner of the map.
-edit
Crazy idea, if the commander dies by enemy fire, he can no longer command for that round. Gotta keep friendly fire cause you'll always have some idiot disagreeing with a mutiny vote.

Hahahah, that'd be kinda funny if you could frag a commander you didn't like, probably would end up with tears but in theory it's awesome.
That's a REAL officer though, get ready for .85 walks in line formation into machine gun fire!

Yeah, weird.
Anyway I don't think the commander is gonna be in the field any time soon.

A majority of the community seems to be calling for it. I'm hoping they'll change it.

Even if the comander got in to the field, he'd have to have somewhere to sit and use his Com screen, theres too much radio traffic not to.

Yeah I imagine it's boring sometimes, it's kinda a shitty process to get a good thing going, if you don't have good SLs you might as well not command, but decent SLs tend not to stick about (I usually jump to another server anyway (not that I'm implying I'm awesome I just try to play properly

)) if there's no good commander.
Gaven wrote:A majority of the community seems to be calling for it. I'm hoping they'll change it.
In my year and a half or so of being on the forums, the general consensus seems to be that the community HATES whatever the DEVs plan to do if it involves anything radical.
Most of the time the cycle is as follows;
Community members have settled down from previous releases major changes or have stopped playing
-->
DEVs plan major overhaul of gameplay, or back a suggestion of an overhaul
-->
Community complains about said changes
-->
DEVs implement them anyway in next release, loads more new players join community because of newness
-->
Community complains about said changes but in retrospective format
-->
Community members who are annoyed enough stop playing
-->
Same happens again
-->
Profit?
this is always the case it seems. But we seem to get enough people from the new releases that enjoy the game to actually increase our player base, regardless of the guys that get pissed off who either 1) stop playing 2) get over it 3) start to enjoy the changes, or 4) for some weird reason torture themselves playing a game they don't like and post on the forums about how PR should go back to how it used to work in .4 or something, weirdos!
Obviously you don't get that kinda protest for the almighty
NEW STUFF!!!
