YES! It is a great idea for the engineers that want to be effective in shooting at more that a few meters lol.

But the M-14 has more stopping power than an M-16, IIRC

Why should we give combat engineers such a powerful weapon? Give them an M4

It's from a field test, I'm assuming

I think the engineer class should not carry a shotgun due to their lack of use by today's marines and ineffectiveness. Instead, they should carry an M16A2 or M16A4, as well as an anti-personnel mine, an anti-tank mine, and a satchel charge.

Today's Marines and other US forces most certainly do use shotguns, but they are a specialized weapon not used in all situations.

Combat engineers usually carry an M16 rifle just like their infantry counterparts, but may carry other weapons for different purposes. In PR they will most likely have a choice between a rifle and the shotgun.

two things in response to the first picture.

first thing, does the saw always have a telescopic butt? the guy towards the back has one.

and, do you think the wirecutters the eng in front has are used to repair tanks ;)

and one thing to the second

he has red shells and a green shell, just curious what kind of shells they would use.

Not always, but from the recent photos I've seen it's becoming more common. Not sure if the telescoping rather than fixed stock being fit is based on the individuals' preferences or unit standard operating procedure.
Riki_Rude_BTYC wrote:and, do you think the wirecutters the eng in front has are used to repair tanks ;)
No, they're used to sabotage tanks to explode. Haven't you played Battlefield Vietnam as the Viet Cong sapper? ;)

Actually, they're probably used to cut tripwires. He's not a combat engineer, he's a Marine Corps assaultman (anti-armor gunner) who is in the position of being that squad's breacher, at the moment, it would seem. :)
Riki_Rude_BTYC wrote:he has red shells and a green shell, just curious what kind of shells they would use.
The red shells are probably 00 buckshot, but the green shell I'm not sure of. Possibly a slug, specialized breaching or maybe even a less-lethal round.
