The bigger problem for the militia would be obtaining replacement parts, munitions, fuel, etc. A militia might be able to obtain an F-4, but what about keeping it running? A former Soviet aircraft might be a better choice, and it might fit the setting more. On the other hand, some backwoods militia getting their hands on a Phantom and using it on US or UK forces is somewhat appealing and just outlandish enough to be still believable.

I do not believe that it is difficult that the militia faction has former Russian out of phase armament and pilots, since the disintegration of the old urss, many miitares joined different armies of the neighboring countries.
But, gentlemen, militia faction its a rebel faction not a country army with airports, silos of petrol, bases of air control, etc etc...
I believe that its excessive to give them capacity in the air, on the other hand it might arises the idea of a new faction ... a little as a country of the East governed by a dictator with more infrastructure that a few rebels of mountain.

They are a well funded rebellious group. They do have access to silos of petrol, airfields ect. ect. ect. You don't need an airport to land a jet, a flat strip of land will do. Petrol is reasonably easy to come by and for a price, you'll always find a seller. How do you think they got ahold of tanks and apcs? They magically grew on trees? An Air Force is not hard to imagine for the Militia to put together. Though upon reflection a former USSR aircraft would probably be more appropriate.

+1
if the nva could land/take off and operate them while incuring the biggest bombing campaign ever... i think the militia should be able to aswell, although in no huge scale.

You can hide a tank much easier than you can hide a jet. Every time they take off they'll be tracked.

The Tamal Tigers seem to not have had much of a problem in this regard.

Also, if the Militia had overrun an airfield and captured several enemy planes or whatnot, wouldn't they have a relatively large supply of jet fuel and munitions?

+1 and if you ever saw "behind enemy lines" they actually went to eastern europe and borrowed all the tanks in the movie from "civilians", all they needed to get for the tanks was fuel. As for jets I don't see why a well funded militia with T-62 tanks and such can't over run an out of the way airfield and use defected pilots to fly whatever's there, because most eastern european countries are probably still using older USSR aircraft.

ok...first: really u will take land with a jet in a "flatrip of land? uhum, sure you faction have a lot of jets and replacement pieces
second: "How do you think they got ahold of tanks and apcs? They magically grew on trees?" the diesel for the tanks its the same oil for the airplanes?? my god in my army life i lost something...

??: i belive that was kerosene or something similar
ok, look IRL: PKM rebels have an ariplanes..yesss (sarcastic)
South osetia rebels have airplanes
Chechens have airplanes
etc etc etc,,,
i dont like to discuss that, its too simple, rebels dont have airplanes, this only happend in holluwood films.

Don't forget that they could have easily gotten the jets from the parent country, or as stated before they could be backed by a country that could benefit from a change in government.
As for the flat land, all the old jets could do it, almost every NVA airfield was dirt, and the migs had no problem. Same went for several of the North Korean airfields as well.
I don't think it would be too big of a stretch if they did get a jet like an old mig. Because its an old airframe I'm sure it would not stand a snowballs chance in a lake of fire if forced into a dog fight. That and it would finally bring use to one of the most underused classes in the game.

Military jets are designed to land on less than favorable runways, besides, any road of sufficient length will do or any cleared flat land. Fuel, again, all you need to do is find a seller, and again for either a well funded militia, or one receiving clandestine support, this is not as difficult as you believe it is.
