ye looks like a book (more like a bunch of tuts on a CD, probably in .pdf) as it would be "by Autodesk" if it was the real max.

Right, good job I haven't bought it then lol.
I've got the trial for 9 and will keep looking round for a seller.

Max 8 has no 32-64 bit spiecial extension that will work on both Max9 has 32 or 64 bit extension.

After having a go with the Max9 trial, I don't really like it, there are features that were implemented in later versions that I have in 2009.
If I desperately want something in Bf2/PR then I'll just export as an .obj file and let an experienced texturer/animator do the rest.
Nevertheless, cheers for the help guys.

Well before you go with the latest 3dsmax the bf2 tools work best with Max 9. I run max 9 and 2009 (both will install together just fine) as both are used.

I can't find any trial of 8 unfortunately, buying it would be an even harder task, and I'm avoiding the wink-wink-nudge-nudge approach. Max9 is also pretty expensive, Max8 would be less I suppose but 2009 will do, I'll just have to export .obj files and do stuff for newer games.
@CodeRed - Do you make something with Max 2009 and then export to 9 to put in BF2 or have you got something that works for 2009?
