Hi there! Thank you to those that made nice comments about TG and our Tactical Mod.

While I'm not a developer on the Tactical Mod, I do have some input on the development. The Tactical Mod by Tactical Gamer was originally developed internally to serve the goals of tactical teamplay in our community. The mod itself has undergone many iterations and many tests on its way up to version 1.0. Around version 0.8, we started to receive a number of inquiries (mostly from similarly minded clans that we scrim against) on the distribution of the mod to their servers. The TacMod team decided it was worthwhile to share the mod when it reached 1.0 and we removed some of the more onerous changes such as increasing respawn death penaltys that fit our player's mentality, but reduced the initial impression of the mod.

While many of the changes we've made could be considered "reality" focused, our goal isn't a "reality" mod unto itself; Rather, it is to achieve a game that more enrichingly rewards teamplay and selflessness and diminishes the rambo and twitch tactics that dominate most ranked and tourney servers. In general TacticalGamer.com has a pretty strict code of ethics, SOPs and Rules that keep all our games tactical and teamplay oriented.

If you have any questions about the mod I would be happy to answer them. In addition everyone is invited to join us on Thursday and Sunday nights when we turn our 64p server #1 from vanilla to TacMod. Other nights the mod is available on our 48p server #2.

Hello there folks! This is |TG|asch from over at Tactical Gamer. I'm the admin managing the Tactical Mod.

To reiterate what Shiner mentioned, the Tactical Mod isn't attempting to be a reality mod. We do try to incorporate realistic features where it doesn't detract from the team-based strategy & tactics style of play. We have a strong community that wanted to take BF2 up a notch and the Tactical Mod was born.

The TG community has a history of creating mods like this for other games. Some of the more popular mods were for the Ghost Recon game where there were over 6800 downloads from fileplanet alone. You can find the mods here.

Back in the middle of February someone had mentioned the Tactical Mod here at the PRMM forums. I noticed that thread and eventually exchanged a few PMs with [R-DEV]eggman about possibly collaborating with PRMM. I don't believe either mod is trying to rip-off each other. We may have similar features, but different objectives. And I'm sure you'll find similar features that were introduced in PRMM first and similar features that were introduced in the Tactical Mod first.

We hope that both mods are successful and the BF2 community becomes better for it.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the reality mods .3 release. I'd also like to invite anyone and everyone over to Tactical Gamer to experience the TG style of play on both the vanilla and the tactical mod servers. Thursdays and Sundays are TG's Tactical Mod night on our primary 64-player server.

... is it just me or did almost every mod suck for GR... ill DL the mod and have a few of the PRMM guys DL it... tell you if it meets the standards.

Sorry for being harsh, but during 4 years of GR ive never heard of them and after playing them this evening i know why.

I'm not here to try and convince you to like anything. Some players like our mods and our style of play and some don't. We're ok with that.

I just want to make sure the facts are clear and that both communities can maintain a good and open relationship. Both mods are similar and I like them both.

You must not have been very active in the GR world. Tactical Gamer had teams in almost every single GR tournament that was run, and we constantly had front page articles on GhostRecon.net. Heck, we've had a link on the actual GhostRecon.com main page for the past two years!

Frankly, you're not providing any information regarding what you didn't like, so I would find it likely that you didn't even bother to actually download the mods and give them any playtime.

Actually. Here's an interesting bit:

In 30 minutes you downloaded over 200MB of mods (TG2.0 and 3.0) as well as Frostbite 1.2 and the 1.3 patch, installed all of the above, and then actually got in enough playtime to draw an educated and reasonable conclusion?

All this aside, the point of the replies from the TG folk is simply that the Tactical Mod isn't meant to push out the PR mod. Both mods have their place and we're both working to make BF2 a less arcade-driven environment. This is a rather POSITIVE thing for us all to be doing, and trying to slam TG over this is not only pointless, but it's also lacking maturity and integrity. In the case above it's also lacking honesty.

First of all let me say that Crawley is being an ***. He is simply a User on these forums that does not Speak for any one in PR.

Second, Thank you for taking time to come over here, register accounts and post an explanation. I know a lot of mods out there would not treat us with that kind of respect after being called thiefs and I know we appriciate the gesture.

I heard of the Frostbite mod before, i had it for a while but just like the rest of the mods for GR such as that HX5 and Da9.5 no servers ever ran the mod so i never got to play it in its full glory. I'l take you up on that offer to download your mod, are there many servers running it?

I understand that completely, Wraith. None of us bear any ill will towards any of the PR developers and site administrators. I still think that PR is a great mod and have no intention whatsoever of changing that viewpoint because of a couple users in your forums.

We still run a TG 3.0 server for GR. But GR lost its legs a while back so finding servers running a lot of these mods is pretty difficult.

The mods are much larger than 1mb. The 2.0 and 3.0 versions of the mod are completely different. 2.0 features a lot of CQB maps and a full-length single or multiplayer campaign. 3.0 makes things a lot tougher with completely redesigned weapons, a bunch of entirely new weapons, removal of all threat indicators, removal of tango markers on the map, new player classes and it's own single/multiplayer campaign.

You can find both of the mods on Fileplanet here. 2.0 is around 143MB and 3.0 is 54.9MB. 2.0 was much larger because it included all the SOAF maps ported over to GR.

Frostbite was one of the few good mods, made for GR and i have heard of Tactical Gamer from GR.net but i had never viewed the mods posted on the link given to me. I only downloaded the 50 or so MB one to see if it was worth downloading the other one, and i found inaccuracies and errors throughout so I decided not to download it, and with a 10MB connection I have no problem what so ever downloaded 200MB with in 30 minutes and considering my computers specs its not a problem installing them and playing a few quick missions either.

Don't get me wrong Tactical Gamer its obvious you care about server game communities, i just felt the particular mod i downloaded was poor, mabye with an updated version that could change -.- (a little to late im guessing).

You didn't miss a thing i declare those the two worst mods and "noobs only" mods ever made for Ghost Recon and DA 4.9 is just stolen materal from a bunch of mods.

What "inaccuracies end errors throughout" made you decide not to download it? There really isn't anything available to fact check unless you HAVE downloaded the mod, looked at the weapons in IGOR, and then compared them to a reference source like Jane's to determine what the various weapon and ballistic values should be.

So how do you reconcile your earlier post? You claim you played GR for 4 years and never heard of Tactical Gamer and that after "playing them this evening" you know why. If you didn't download them, how could you have played them?

I welcome you guys. No matter what game you have modded, you are still part of the modding community as a whole, and we welcome you to these forums However, I would ask everyone interested in this thread to ensure that the tone and level of aggression within posts are kept to a minimum. I would consider it a shame to have to lock a topic because of flames. That's not how we do things here.

I do represent Tactical Gamer. Tactical Gamer is my brainchild and something I have spent over 9 years building. I don't normally register in sites with the |TG| tag as I prefer my opinion to stand on its own, rather than being associated with any specific tag.

My apologies if you took my last posts as flames, they were not meant to be. When I see comments made such as the ones Crawley has been making, I tend to call out the author to provide some sort of information to help bring some credibility to their statements, be it about Tactical Gamer, Battlefield 2, the state of illegal immigration in the USA or anything else.

In any case, you are quite right. This doesn't need to become a flame war at all. I just got a bit carried away considering the offensiveness of some of Crawley's comments.

DarkAngel stole everything he put in DA4.9. The only good thing is the install background with the two hot chicks with see through clothing for that i recommend downloading.

Unfortunately...

In order to run TG3 you need to have Frostbite 1.2 and 1.3 installed on your system. The TG3 mod treats Frostbite as a GR expansion. I didn't notice a "Frostbite" directory on there, so I'm still not sure how you managed to play and evaulate TG3.
