Terranova wrote:The thing about the shotgun though, is that unless its an urban environment, its useless. You don't see alot of shotgun kills on maps such as zatar wetlands, fushe pass, etc. Which is primarily why I suggested carbines/rifles for their classes. If possible, perhaps the devs could open up an alternate kit for the same classes (unlocking the unlockables). The two kits could feature a shotgun and a carbine/rifle for each seperate kit.

If not, then on urban dominated maps (Karkand, Sharqi etc.) the primary weapon could be a shotgun. Where as on field type maps the primary weapon for the engy class could be a rifle/carbine. :)
One of my guys, Lammy, He was playing with the MEC shotty yesterday and was sniping people with it (using Slug shot). It is extremely accurate.

On infantry only Zatar today, I wiped out 7 guys in a row with it too... 1 shot, 1 kill... very very very deadly.

i've tried the shotgun and its good but it doesn't seem too realistic to be able to switch between different shell types 'on the fly'

the engineer could set up perimeters if he was given claymores, actually useful at mines (a hornet, maybe?), or satchels to blow up bridges.

Sorry I didn't read the whole thread so if this is a repeat can an admin deleate it.

I think we put an area around all the vehicles then the engineer could pull equipment from them. They could have different things for the different vehicles something like this

All vehicles 20-40ft of concentina wire

big transports can have boxes or baricades

small transports could have sandbags

OR

A vehicle new vehicle could be made (like an MTVR) and it could be an Engineer vehicle and it could have all the placeables in it.

The engy class in BF2 is without a doubt a "combat" engineer. In the real world, engys are kept in the rear until needed for things like airfield construction, river crossings, firebase construction and on and on. Combat engys are attached to units at the front for support and are armed for personal protection and not part of a formal assault.

I think it'd be a nice feature to have alt weapons for all classes to add diversity. In vanilla there's the MP7 unlock for engineers that already adds some diversity to the kit. Improving on this, PR could use alt weapons for both teams on all kits and it'd almost be like there are twice as many kits. You can take the squad assisting sharpshooter role or take the long range sniper role. You can take your shotty for close range assaults or a carbine for long ranges. A simple RPG with a tougher sidearm or a more complex wire guided Eryx and pistol combo for MEC AT kits. This would also solve the issue with the more realistic MEC weapons. Why choose between AK-47 and AK-101 on the forum when we could be choosing on the battlefield?

Anyway, knowing how efficient you guys are this idea's probably already being planned if not already in place for a later build. Good work with the mod guys, I played it for a bit yesterday and I was real impressed. I really can't wait to see how the builds progress, this mod is definetely going places. Whether ground breaking features get added such as moving objects and other things vanilla didn't dream of, the already improved upon realism is enough to get a lot of people playing.

I think sandbags would kick friggin *** - imagine the kind of teamwork that could creat between the eng and support classes

if you could get it so that the eng can set down a small sandbag wall, and then give the support guy a 50cal M2 or something of the sort (a crew served weapon) that can also be set down as a deployable object - BUT ONLY ON THE SANDBAGS

irl thats how they have to set up most crew served weapons right? it might seem uber unrealistic to have a support gunner carry a saw/rpk AND a 50cal mg, but it would create more use for eng + teamwork

the only real problem (much more than any coding) is keeping people from abusing the hell outta it...

Abuse of the sandbags was not a problem in DC, nor was the mortar. Remember? You could only put those objects down on the ground. No rooftops or catwalks or anywhere else. I know that the game engines for each are completely different, but it did work before.....

This idea relates very strongly to the up and coming Enemy territor quake wars, where every class has a certain number of deployables, ranging from automated artillery guns, defence turrest and radar stations.
These are slightly bigger but are along similar lines. I personnaly dont want to see a huge pile of sand bags appear from no where.
Maeby some sort of equipment supply drop OR a
A digger or small construciton vehicle! this would enble fiarly large obsacles to be put down, including:
TAnk barrier (concrete block, but with a limited number - 5)
Small sand bag wall (limited number of 2)
Small patch of antitank mines (2 drops)
A row of barb wire (100m)

It would also be able to remove anti tanks obstacles and clear mine fields. It would not be able to take sand bags away but all vehicles would be able to crussh barbed wire.

The construction "digger" would be resupplied from suplly drops.
It would have bullet proof windows and would almost immune to hand grenades and the odd C4 blast.

This, i think would be far more realistic than enginner building defensive objects. These vehicles would be situate in base locations but there would often only be avalible to one team.

I had a simular thought yesterday... A military digger like those used in Israel, or just a bog standard JCB....

What you could do with it is shove blown up vehicles.. or any vehicles to make barracades. Just make a load of civi cars like those in SF, and make them "shovable"... now, that'd be cool.

An engenering vehicle has been mention before. This vehicle could be used for the this purpose.
It is really a question of how best to implament it, rather than waht to implament.
p.S add those civics, we have one and i would love to trash one to bits.

WE NEED TANKS THAT CAN DRIVE OVER CARS AND CRUSH THEM SO BADLY!!! sob sob sob.
sorry but seriously it is a huge area that probaly cna not be done but need so badly to be done! and off etqw we go................

sonuva mother bugger, I'm suprised I dint remember this sooner if the mod hadnt sucked so bad - BF42 Galactic Conquest - it had a deployable "holographic camoflage (spelling?) net" that snipers had to deploy and hide behind - it assumed the texture of whatever hill was behind it/it was set on and the sniper could, well, snipe through the net

my point is with that and as long as the engines arent too different, it oughta be possible to make sandbags easily enough...
