I can personally say I've survived the last two dozen time I have been shot down, and either gotten extracted or walked back to the base. The trick is to actually turn HARD, not slow. Actually, during a round in the Project Reality Tournament I ejected after getting hit by a SAM. On the way back I helped secure our main flag when a few troops tried to capture it. After friendly squad arrived I went back with a few minutes to spare before getting shot.

IMO, you're taking your virtual life too serious
Let's look at the problem from another point of view....
- pilots life costs 1 ticket
- crashed transport heli for example costs 5 tickets
- respawn time when died in crash 30-40 seconds
- time needed to evacuate from hostile territory to friendlies 1 - XX minutes
Conclusions
1. If it's possible try to return to base for repairs instead of abandon the vehicle, your heli is worth more then your life for your team.
2. If above is impossible die in the crash, you'll get back to fight a lot faster that way.
IMO, pilots could be having a knife, it wouldn't hurt... but nothing more than that, for above posted reason (paradrops, etc.)

the whole problem is if someone takes the pilot kit with pistol.
ok they fly over a spot eject out.
all they have to do is kill one enemy and take his kit to be back in and playign so voila paratroop kit.

Just give them a knife. As with real life: if a PR pilot is dumb enough to challenge a platoon of enemies wielding assault rifles with nothing but a knife, let him die.

I can see how it is a problem that people take the pilot kit to go shoot stuff. However irl pilots do get a handgun. So instead of leaving him naked, give him a loaded pistol and no clips. 15 shots are enough for self defense, but still not enough to request the kit and go shooty with 3 mags.

alot of people are posting the same lines over and over again, in several threads for the last 3 weeks.
plz do me a favour: read and understand the thread before you post the same statement over and over again!

I'm sure that even if you give them knives some idiot is going to try using it as a paratrooper kit. Most of the time pilots don't even survive a crash so adding a weapon just for the rare occasion someone does isn't worth it.
Who, though? I've played for a long time on many servers, and I've never seen more than 1 or 2 instances of this, outside of my old "Helljumper" squad from .6/.7 days.

I agree. I've been playing for about a year now and I too have only encountered one or two instances of this...and one happened this morning! I guess that guy forgot about the no weapons change and left me to fall to my death for nothing.
But I think maybe the developers have underestimated the community. Sure there are players who do this stuff and tk for helicopters and jets, but unlike bf2v this rarely happens in pr. I don't have any recollection of a round where this was a huge problem.
I know the developers are more familiar with pr than I am, and I don't browse the forums much so forgive me if what I'm about to say is ridiculous...but have a
significant amount of players actually been complaining recently about paratrooper incidents or excessive teamkills for the air vehicles? Or is this just what the developers have gathered from games they have played. Or could it have something to do with the beta testers? They are supposed to try and exploit certain parts of the game because they think that's what people in public games will do. But the fact is the majority of players in Project Reality choose not to exploit or misuse loops in the game. If that's the case maybe things should be looked at differently.
Haha, but what do I know? You guys know what you are doing and this doesn't really affect me personally (I go down with the ship every time so to speak) so who cares what I say?

In real life they have pistols issued to them with like 1 or 2 extra clips.
It should be like this:
Knife
Pistol
Red Smoke
Dressing
Why would anybody go and fight a bunch of guys with automatic weapons with a pistol with 2 extra mags and a knife. You will most likely die.
And for people airdropping... I've rarely seen that happen and it never works out! a squad of 6 guys with pistols vs a squad that is fully armed with grenades, assault rifles, medics... etc isn't a fair fight that will change the sway of the battle.
I remember the epic days that i placed people into key points into maps, This one time i got shot down and had no way at all of saving the heli. It just kept on going down with no turning. I bailed and landed on the ground and took refuge into a building. I called for another huey to come pick me up and tossed red smoke. It seemed like the squad that shot me down had a nearby forward base with an AA. I waited in the building until a saw two riflemen comming to the site of my parachute landing trying to kill me. I used my pistol and emptied a few shots into one of the guys and managed to barely kill him. The other realized and fired his G3 into me and i was wounded and down. Since i was close to my red smoke when the Huey landed the rifleman was killed by the Huey squad and a medic healed me and took me back to the carrier. It was one of the best times i had with project reality. Please give us the pistol back.

Well, adding an MP7.. nah.
But, atleast, you can punch the enemy till death

In real life pilots don't get mp7s!
lol
That would encourage paradropping into places like crazy.
I agree with the no MP7.. but punching? Seriously?

I don't know if this would cause more problems then there already is, but what if you made the pilot kit a spawnable kit, and make it like the civilian? That way they can have their pistol but they can't pick up any enemy kits. That seems fair, a little crude but it could work.

It would be alot simpler to just give the pilot a knife and a pistol.
Everything was fine before

it was removed becuase full squads went pilot and paradroped onto the e bases, behind there lines, and did major damage.
if there was a paratrooper kit, it would be fine, but pilots being used as paratroopsers in unrealistic, so they removed the pistol to stop it from happining

OH MY GOD. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A PISTOL WHEN YOUR JOB IS TO FLY THE DAMN PLANE OR HELICOPTER?!?!?!
It was either remove the weapons or remove the parachute. One would stop the stupid paradrop squads, the other would stop the paradrop squads AND the tk's for assets. The people complaining just want their pistol so they can kill people, which is not your job.
It should be kept like it is now.

No, I expect to come play a realistic game when i start Project reality. It's one of the few ones out there.
In real life pilots get pistols, that simple. Nothing else to it.
If people are paratrooping into enemy territory... thats the player and the admins problem. Not us who actually enjoyd the pilot kits accuracy to the real thing. The position that you are arguing from seems like you rarely fly around as a pilot. So let us worry about our kit, and you worry about what ever your doing.
And FYI: When a pilot is shotdown into enemy territory, they are expected to defend themselves and avoid capture. Which IS their "job".

Yes, but in RL pilots also have survivalist and evasion training, and have a great deal farther then a maximum 4km to travel. However, the point remains that, while on the ground, a pilot does NOT go looking for a fight, and in PR that is exactly what the pistol was used for.
Project Reality is a constant struggle between reality and gameplay. We often say players are hardcoded, but when a very simple change that does not effect the INTENDED gameplay significantly can be made that stops a vastly UNINTENDED and wasteful practice, it should be done.
The simple fact is, the detriments of giving the pilot kit a pistol (paratrooper squads that waste tickets, Tk's for assets, and pilots trying to rambo it behind enemy lines) vastly outweighed the single benefit (self-defense in the RARE case that you survive being shot down AND fail at evasion).

Another reason why idiots are running this game and the mods are helping.
Bring back the damn pistols and let the freakin server admins deal with trouble makers.
