I personally don't like the idea of having ranks. It will cause people to worry about their own stats more instead of trying to work as a team.

Heck, I think being able to see how many kills you've made and your amount of deaths in game is too much, but that's just me.

I've had lots of newbies in squads I've been in that have listened and learnt and been just as useful as every other player in the team. Fair enough people who've played for much longer are probably better but i think I prefer the average teamwork idea.

But my point is that all the stats can be 'padded' or whatever. PR isn't like other games, it comes down to how you play the game, not how you've been rewarded. It's like when a real life pilot says how many hours of flight time he has. You can't judge his skill by that number alone. But you also can't play the game to the point where you know every detail about it, without racking up a lot of hours of play.

If you judge by teamwork points you'll have people who play ONLY for the points they'll get. You'll have people whoring assets like in other battlefield game, because they give the biggest return for your time. Which is totally what PR is NOT supposed to be. Thats why i said a simple counter of your time in game would be a nice way of showing the higher ranking players from the lower ones. I don't believe it would result in new players being kicked, it would just result in them being held to a higher standard then they are now. Because, if i was squad leading, and saw a guy with 10-20 hours join my squad, i would pay attention to what he is doing, to ensure he is playing properly. The guys with thousands of hours, would most likely not need the same supervision.

The only thing that should be displayed in a resume is if you have a mic. Then you won't have to wonder if he's ignoring your mic check or not.

TF6049 wrote:To help squad leaders, people should have a rank displayed in-game. This tells the SL/CO...

-What they are best at
-How good they are with it

Also, if multiple people want an asset and a high-ranker with it is part of them, they get it first (e.x. newbs must wait a minute after round starts to get kits, while the ranked members get "rights" or "dibs" on the kit/vehicle).

How to get them
-You can go on a series of maps with an R-DEV or some other reliable person (E.X. a sniping range)

EX for a sniper
-You have a set amount of targets, and a set amount of shots (EX 30 shots, 30 targets, they all must be headshots to kill)

There are 4 ranks
-None (not been tested in anything)
-Bronze: complete 25% of the test successfully
-Silver: completed 50% of the test successfully
-Platinum: completed 75% of the test successfully
-Gold: completed 90% of the test successfully

Note that you can retest for different/the same skill(s), but you may only have ONE at a time (the idea being not to hog ALL the kits). Also, please add in crewman kits to the system

NEW KIT SUGGESTION
Attack Pilot
-This pilot is the only one capable of flying attack aircraft (helis, jets) and requires a platinum pilot certification

HOW IT'S DISPLAYED
In the TAB menu, there will be an icon next to the person's name with the appropriate kit icon and a background of either bronze (brown), silver (grey), platinum (green for easy IDing), and gold (gold). If they have no rank, it will be an empty icon.

Thoughts?
I think people are missing some of the mechanics of this idea.
You will not be able to statpad and the rank is only awarded once, more like a series of certifications than ranks that are earned with points in game.
The concept limits you to one cert at a time so uber-players with lots of time on their hands cannot hog all the kits.

I honestly doubt this can be included in the game itself coding-wise, but I think the system could be applied through the forums.
I know, I know, ... noobs don't read the forums but we can encourage more people to visit and the certs would be useful to those who do visit the forums.

I have played for a long time and yet I am still a poor attack pilot in a helo and suicidally dangerous in a jet so simply hours in-game don't tell you about specific skills.

Bad idea. Access to all features of the game should not be limited to skill.

IMO Public Games/Servers are for fun. And whilst I can honestly say that
I have had some of my best rounds in public games, I don't believe it
is the place for that sort of hierarchy.

If you want to have a controlled environment where responsibility, prestige, rank
and choice of equipment is important. Then why not join an organised tournament
or clan that allows you to demonstrate your ability and you can earn the right
to use specialist kit/assets in an organised scrim or battle.

Whilst initially good fun, I do believe the importance placed on the ranking within vBF2
led to the statpadding and exploitation which turned me away from it.
And good job it did, as I would probably not have found PR so soon.

Well the reality of this idea is, if this "feature" were implemented, I just simply wouldn't play PR. There's a lot of other people who wouldn't play it either, especially most of the new people.

If your reaction to that statement was something along the lines of "Good, get lost" then that's the type of attitude that will destroy a community, not build one.

I'm glad to see that the developers also don't like this idea.

It's funny but I have seen almost the verbatim post for a long time now and the community has never been destroyed by it's efforts to raise the standard of play.
I am curious where you draw your information that "most of the new people" wouldn't play if they couldn't get access to kits and equipment they are not qualified to operate.
Is there a secret " new players " command center ?
I believe once you have been playing for a while and truly begin to value your gaming time, finding someone who has absolutely no consideration for others will begin to grate on your nerves and you too will seek solutions.
Nobody wants to force new players away from the game because the more players the more choices you have in servers and maps etc.
But I have seen three separate threads that touch on this idea and the game itself supports it with the whole limited kit idea.

I am also curious about why you have such a hostile tone concerning this idea and I am not singling you out as there have been others with the same tone.

This is an anti-idiot mechanism more than anything else. Just because you're new doesn't mean you aren't a prodigy and can pass the test first go...

I agree. As you play, you'll recognize many names you've seen before, and will get a personal confirmation about their ability.

Even as a new player way back in the summer of '08 (yea, not all that long ago :D ), I recognized many names on the servers I stuck to. I think I've even played with Eddie before, though I don't think I pronounced his name right (I remember calling him eddy-R-eyes or something :p ).

Of course, if you see a new face, don't automatically assume they can't fly/gun/drive/etc... The only actual way you'll now how a player will perform is if you've seen him play. And even at that, all players have good and bad days, so a system like this doesn't give the best results.

Sounds like elitist nonsense to me. Let admin kick those that waste assets, crashing choppers on take off, soloing tanks etc. Other than that I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed access to assets and kits.

What hostility are you talking about? The "secret new players command center" was cute though.

Anyway, I don't think you read my post. I didn't say raising the standard of play would destroy the community. You should read it again. I said having a "get lost" attitude is the kind of attitude that will destroy a community, not build one. Hopefully it's clearer this time.

At the end of the day, I'm glad you're not developing the game, that way everyone gets a fair shot. 8)

i dont agree with the main idea becuase how will they learn on it?
you have to practice on it before you would test, and then the training servers are not all that good, you can also have other errors like lag and bad computers.

i think like others have sead, only fly with those you trust....
