My theory is, just don´t let it happen.
I know I won´t hesitate to TK anyone pointing HAT, tank or whatever at me, or actually shooting at me to save my own asset/life.
For example, muttrah if you suspect someone might be griefing, and your going for the cobra or something, just turn around while warming up and get your gunner to point at the suspicious party, just in case.

This was on the UK warfare server and non of us or the others got Kicked or banned.
Sometimes Tk is the only language they understand if you get replies like "Every Sq should have one Sniper" or "I took the Marksman for Sniping"
I would have banned you for life. TK is never the way to go if you want a kit.

I don't think short of tracking them down and paying a large group of 10 year olds to beat them bloody youcould ever repay them the aggro they cause, but you can make it very hard for them to operate.
I had you down as more the type to get armed and angry!

Anyway I think more admins need to stop playing the game, and actually admin the server. Most people seem to have admin rights, so they can kick/ban anyone they have personal problems with, instead of actually running and cleaning up the server.

Scenario:
A new player wants to try out the vaunted Heavy Anti-Tank rocket, redesigned for Project Reality, and the Squad Leader decides to walk him through the procedure on the flight deck
before entering a hostile zone.
The rest is server history.

A new player won´t have been suspiciously wondering around, and continuously pointing his HAT at me, and if a SL is training him by pointing at friendlies, well...
Its not like killing every HAT in sight....

Well, I agree you shouldn't preemptively strike any friendly players simply because you have a "hunch". But you still have to be ready in case they do something unexpected. Like covering the brakes on your car when going through residential zones with children. You can't be sure what'll happen.
For instance, I've had a huey chase Cool down when he was coming to pick me up, and while we weren't firing at him (didn't need to, thankfully), we had to outmaneuver/outrun him while asking for admins to kick him. Prior to, however, we had seen him doing suspicious activities, including several helicopter TKs (though he apologized, you can't be too sure). Because of that, we remained especially vigilent when around him.

I am an advocate of the pre-emptive accusation rather than the actual TK.
I was making an example and I know it doesn't fit every situation and the loss of a cobra ( 10pt ? ) is something of an urgent matter, similar to a smacktard drawing attention when the whole squad is flanking.
"needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"
What I am getting at is more of an attitude that team killing bad, mmmmkay ?
Very bad
I know about mistaken identity shots and crashes and all the exceptions but to me that is part of the game whereas TK wars on the carrier get personal.
I won't lie and say I have never teamkilled out of pure emotion but it is something that needs to be frowned upon, frowned down upon, with big Breschnev unibrows.
Caplok is your friend and so many people still don't know that so tell them when they shoot you off a hill 250m BEHIND the nearest blue flag as you advance from the main.
Don't ***** and carp as that only gets people in a nasty mood.
Observe and report like a good citizen, but don't take the law into your own hands.
Thank you and good night

I think my biggest problem with tk's at the moment, are that not many people are very forgiving. I've tk'd my fair share of people (all accidentally of course, I'd rather get tk'd 7 times and laugh at the tker than attack back like he wants me to. Nor have I ever tk'd for a kit etc..) but I don't think I've ever been forgiven. I always say sorry, even if I just shoot near a friendly out of reflex.
Everyone here seems to want to distance themselves as far from vanilla bf2 as possible and as the argument against Tahanatos points out, tking even when you feel you have a reason just puts you as low as the guy who tk's for kits, vehicles, joy, etc. It hurts the team as a whole. You admittedly state your willingness to break server rules to uphold server rules. Doesn't make much sense does it?

I haven't noticed " forgiven " posts on some servers, only punished.
I was an auto-forgiver in 'nilla so it wasn't a change for me but a lot of people auto-punish w/o thinking and are too busy to text chat it was a mistake.
Mine punishes used to drive me crazy but when I started to think of marked mines as tools of natural selection I achieved a zen state when I teamkilled a vodnick load of people.......twice.

I tend to keep my rifle pointed towards potential enemies, just yesterday I was playing with my friend on the Skyttegraven server, and we joined on of the Swedish VOIP squads, on Tad Sae (a China VS US, jungle map for those of you who haven't played it.)
So one guy in our squad, decided to get the sniper rifle. Turns out, he doesn't have a mic, doesn't speak swedish and doesn't follow orders in either swedish or english.
So after we kicked him he started getting all up in our faces demanding an explanation, which we gave him, and then he started cursing and stuff, running up behind our backs and just standing there with his rifle.
Of course I'm going to get my M249 deployed and ready in a scenario like this, if he starts shooting at us he's going down first.

I know I sound like a broken record but carry that one out to the end.
He fires his pistol at you and you kill him.
He quits, DL the BR file and protests with the server admin.
The admin now has to sort out all the text to determine what happened.
If you let him TK you and punish it's recorded and there is no question as to who is at fault.
Exception to the rule would be if you were deep behind the enemy lines and he threatened the safety of the whole squad.
But that is a subjective judgement and since it is just game, better to get the evidence to make sure if the guy is a true smacktard, and not just some guy having a bad day, he gets banned.
But I don't worry about the wild TK guy so much as the single-man tank/APC etc and the supply trucks used as taxis.
That is the behaviour that can really affect a game without being a kickable offense.

That was sort of what happened, we were the one squad in the North West objective area, on the opposite side of the map of everyone else, there were possible enemies around, and we couldn't build a firebase cause the Commander sucked.

I never grief for TKs. It's a waste of tickets. The main thing that ticked me off about loosing that sniper kit was that the prick didn't even take it from my corpse. He let it go to waste. That is what got under my skin. More than just the TKing. I worked my *** off to run that sniper down, and kill him. Then some idiot makes it all for not.
I don't intentionally TK. I am a team player. When I see people grieving each other at main all that I see are idiots wasting tickets. I'm in the round to win, every time a ticket is wasted or a kit lost for a minute.
It's just infuriating. Far to many people play this game with their heads so far up......*sighs*... I try to play for my team. That means I don't throw away my lives, I don't throw away my squads lives. Every ticket counts. Every kit counts. Every piece of support equipment counts.

Because if he picked it up after TKing you he would be killed by the game.
