Oh, I'm totally chilled, I just tried to explain why I would like to buy a PR CD or DVD. That's all. No need to rehash that now.

Umm could somebody please tell me what a shout is?
I know it's off topic. Sorry.

Why can it not be Rar/Zipped? That should reduce the size very much.

Dark Ewok you need to chill out, I was making a comment.
Nope not that i know of, because the client rebuilds the file and most clients run md5 hash checks to make sure the parts being downloaded are not corrupted.

At the bottom of the front page of the forum there's a chat thing going. Every chat thing you post is a shout.

Keep it up, guys! I eagerly await the release and really hope it won't be 5 days so us tournament guys can get used to the changes in time.

Just out of curiosity, would it be possible to get a wight breakdown of the mod at this stage?
i.e. a pie chart showing how many MB are from code, models, maps, etc.
Something tells me that most of the mod's size comes from DICE's abysmal map file type since there isn't much new equipment and I can't imagine making more than a megabyte of code.

The installers use their own compression, within a couple % points of rar.

We won't be making any pie charts, y'all can feel free afterwards.

I guarantee you it's mostly map content, loading screens and other client side things.

People want lots of content... and now we've spun a bunch of posts complaining about the size impacts of delivering lots of content... it's 750mb, we'll get it on Torrent and other download mechanisms and we'll see what we can do in the future (cuz it's only gonna get bigger).

let's drop this topic and move on pls....

Most of that 750MB is levels as you say. BF2 maps are extremely large, and PR has quite a few ;)

put it this way, all the maps add upto 650mb, the rest of it is the small stuff you would exspect, models, code, textures ect.

BF2 maps do take up alot of space

Who cares how big it is. If you are on broadband then the wait shouldnt be that long to download and certainly will take less time than buying a disc online. and why complain about how big it is anyway, its free and you want to play it so complaining is pointless.

If you download at 200kb/s you can get the file in about an hour....I dont know if thats accurate ... Still worth the wait.

750 meg is nothing - you can download twice that with MMORPG demos.

I do think that once you've released this version and applied the inevitable bug hotfix it might be a good idea to approach Dice. They bundle it with future batches of BF2 and you show the world there's another side to the same Engine.

Nobody makes any money (initially) but you get great publicity.

hehe I have faith that we will have some bugs :)

Our bugs might not need a hotfix, but we're considering it a probability that BF2 1.3 will require a PR patch for compatability.
