I use mouse for both. Sort of on and off. I use both joystick and mouse/keyboard for jets, but I just cannot bring myself to fly helicopters with a joystick. I find it incredibly difficult and confusing.

I don't know about this, using mouse works for me, also when using a mouse you have better control over your aiming as you can adjust your gunsights better.

Joystick for jets, mouse and keyboard for choppers, it's hard to get 0% throttle on choppers with my joystick throttle without going into reverse thrust, so much easier to use keyboard, i find.

Keyboard-keyboard for both for me as the reactions are quicker. I am the only pilot ive seen that can do it though :) .

Doesn´t Blaat use only keyboard also?

If I am flying a jet I will use a joystick, When i bought my Logitech Extreme 3D PRO 3XD joystick I tried to fly a jet with it and it was realy nice and realy easy but when I tried to fly a chopper with it, it was realy realy hard I had problems taking of properely and then I crashed and then Instantly I plugged my joystick out and used the mouse again and I wa happy with the mouse.
Of course I still use the joystick but for jets only!

This is true, however i thought pr actually slowed down the response from the engine so that this wasnt actually possible? sure the control input is 100 - 0, but does the engine do this as well?

I use a Joystick (right hand), Throttle (left hand) and Rudder Pedals (feet) while flying an aircraft or helicopter. Although I must admit that helicopters will most likely take the greatest amount of time to get used to. The controls and flight characteristics offered through the BF2 engine is very inaccurate in the operation of helicopters.

This is partly because of how the "torque" indicator is wrong as it shows 1% torque in almost a perfect hover. In actuality, it should be showing 48-49% torque instead (obviously a helicopter would fall out of the air with 1% torque) which is just a hair slightly less than a perfect hover as it is gradually descending... Which is the way it appears in game.

Besides, it's hellish to try and use dumbfire rockets on a helicopter without an adequate combination of throttle and collective controls. Every time you pitch down to aim at your target, the helicopter speeds up faster and faster completely overshooting the target you intended to fire at anyways. The list of issues goes on and on for helicopters. They're not as fine tuned as they need to be but that's the nature of their operation in BF2. Pilots are forced to make due with what they have as there is no stabilization features for gunners either.

I heard BF2 referred to something like this once: "Jack of all trades, master of none."

Anyways... I still use some of my controls for vehicles as well. It's along the lines of: Mouse (right hand), Throttle (left hand) and Rudder Pedals (feet) for steering. It works rather well actually. It takes some time getting used to, but you must have the mouse available to use as it's necessary to look around while you're driving. The joystick is not going to cut it in the land vehicle category.

I use the keybaord only when flying anything, so i cant help you here.

Hay,

Thanks guys.

M. Warren. Yeh thats pretty much my setup, throttle left, js right. works well, flying a helicopter came naturally for me with the JS in pr. mainly because i didn't use anything else besides it to start off.

Love that quote. really true, thats why i preffer transport helo than attack, attack choppers get shotdown easy and its harder to actually hit something, like you said with the pitch thing.

Definitely joystick for everything it feels more natural and allows for more accuracy. Also its more realistic. In a realism based game your flying with a mouse...? Doesnt make sense to me how anyone could fly like that. You guys should feel ashamed.

O_o sounds good! hope you get it! Joysticks are great- try getting one with a twist handle for rudder because your going to have on hand on the stick and one on the throttle- dont have 3 hands for a and d keys for rudder!

If your getting a joystick make sure the plugins are the right size. Older joysticks might not work with newer computers. 8)

Plugs? like usb ports? do they vary in size..

Im looking to get a new joystick- thinking about the beast "Saitek X52-PRO" AU$300

YouTube - Review of the Saitek X52 Pro Flight Control System with FSX (Audio Sync Fixed)

a review about it

Thats an investment.

Well chugga if your just using PR get a cheaper joystick, like Saitek 290 Pro. All that stuff isnt really necessary for PR, seeing that there are no working gauges, unless you are a flight simulator user with a more sophisticated program. Then that would be a really cool system. You should see the rigs we get in aviation class at high school. It costed a fortune it has panels and everything. Though PR is a realistic game the aircraft are woefully un-realistic and most of that stuff on the X52 wouldnt be used. It would look cool though lol

If Anyone has one, try an old USB controller. OK for jets and choppers, and a lot of fun with ground vehicles. the buttons are hard to program though...

Hay thanks luke and mosquito-

Yeh im a avid user of FSX and PR, im using the EXTREME 3d PRO by logitech but thinking about upgrading. -- Wow mosquito you have an aviation class? is it a private school? lol i wanna go to your school! i go to a private school but it has shit all in the way of electives.

i personally have found that a joystick/mouse control hybrid is the best. Use the thruster on the joystick while controlling the movement of the airship with the mouse. Gives you that quick response of the mouse with the accurate thrust needed to pull off quick and tight landings
