Well gazz, a single soldier doesnt have Radio, maybe the SL but not the squad member. the grunt. Which also would encourage people working togheter, rather than lonewolfing.

I like that idea jonny.

Also, it would cause less lag not having a voip server running i guess

suppose, and i agree on the lone wolf and keeping squads together.

what about when your close to enemy, IRL you can use hand signals ect so not to be heard, how we get around that ? the chat system?

lone wolves are lone wolves, they dont need a radio, so it wont cut them off
forcing turn off of VOIP wont help, when you cut from your squad and need to say something important you will use teamchat, so its not a solution
When you go up close to the enemy, you should have to worry about them hearing you.
biggest problem, because its weird, when i'm sitting in room on 4th floor and guy sitting in another building 50 meters away can hear me through this distance and 4( or more) concrete walls
so i disagree with turning off VOIP
What happens when you get a chopper pilot who isn't an SL?
whats the problem here? just tell him what you want through push-to-talk, no need in other channel or forcing center

Jonny wrote: Then use them in game. Tell the squad that when you nod your head they are to get ready to attack, and to attack when you stand up or fire. Then start nodding when you are about to attack, make sure most have seen, and stand up or fire.

Looking at someone while sighted in means 'oi, you'
Nodding means 'go that way'
Crouching means 'crouch & stop moving'
Proning means 'take cover'
totally not practical IMO

-Ok jonny, how do you suppose squads organize themselves before the game starts? Should 64 players talk at once on Mumble? Maybe epic chat use? But no, soldiers don't have text rolling by in the top left of their field of view so that has to go as well. Think things through before you jump in.

In terms of what is practical, and what is realistic this is a good discussion?

Mumble does make people lonewolfing in squads harder to play as, and promotes realistic gameplay, squadleader has a messanger, that he tells, go there, go there and tell those guys that. Kinda cool.

And it does give the game a whole new depth, but as i understand, there is a part where we lack sufficient communication to make this mumble work alone.

But i think typing in teamchat and perhaps even Allchat, should be disabled, and only server admin can do it, that way we must use mumble for chatting, and noone can spam, unless they are squadleader with atleast say, 3 men in the squad? or two? Is that possible to code in?

And using hand signs can be squad chat?

But i think what gaz said, that hand signs cant be used when close to enemies, it is a very good argument for keeping BF2 VOIP.

Although i feel very annoyed, and wish to ignore this, he is right.. :(

Ehrm... Tartan, i have been in channels on TS with atleast 64 players... its not that big of a deal. even on public games, people can at max hear 2 guys talk at the same time, there is no way there will be a huge cluster ****, i belive a single person who has a plan, tells everyone what to do, and what he will do, thats what usually happends when i play.

You can simulate hand signals typing in the chat, you'll use your hands and won't make noise

Ohyea please keep the BF2 voip in as well. Remember PR is slightly in the future (love this argument to get something slightly unrealistic in ;) ) where possibly all squad-members have radio's. It also looks like that in some documentary's. Or theres loads of SL'ers or NCO's about with them on.

And more importantly (didnt see this come up yet) If you remove the BF2 voip for the lone squad-member out there you will also hurt the APC squads, Armor squads and pilot squads.

Ohyea! Option number 2 would have my favorite as well. If that is the way it goes than by all means remove the VOIP.

QFT , this shouldn't be hidden like the developments for future PR versions (.9 ect) but done with the community.
